Court Rules 'Bookkeeper of Auschwitz', 96, Must Go to Jail

Germany's Constitutional Court has ruled that a 96-year-old German must go to jail over his role in mass murders committed at the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz during World War Two, refusing to overturn a lower court ruling.

Oskar Groening, known as the "bookkeeper of Auschwitz" for his job counting cash taken from the camp's victims, was sentenced to four years' jail in 2015, but wrangling over his health and age have delayed the start of his sentence.

The Constitutional Court rejected the argument by Groening's lawyers that imprisonment at his advanced age would violate his right to life, adding that the gravity of his crimes meant there was a particular need for him to be seen to be punished.

He came to attention in 2005 after giving interviews about his work in the camp in an attempt to persuade Holocaust deniers that the genocide had taken place.

No good deed...

Dang, 96 and in bad health? He’ll probably poop all over the jail cell. “Hey, Trustee! Clean up in Cell Block C!”

Oskar needs to not worry so much about punishment now.

It’s the punishment at Judgment Day that he needs to worry about.

Gravity of crimes was too serious, regardless of age.

Maybe he should be sentenced to going around telling people this for the rest of his life. Has he ever met David Irving or Roger Waters?

Yes, people needed to be accountable for this, but the story needs to be told and recorded, as well.

His real crime was reminding the German of what they’d done. They couldn’t let that go unpunished.

Jews who were 96 weren’t excused from being rounded up.

“Gravity of crimes was too serious, regardless of age.”

Hopefully this applies to the Clintons as well.

In Auschwitz, I don’t think age or health issues did anything but move people to the front of the line at the gas chamber. I don’t care why he revealed himself, his crimes are too egregious to be mitigated.

Hose him down once a week with a fire hose... That should do the trick. That’s what he deserves for being part of the biggest murder plot in history. Whether he’s 20 or 100, he and the victims he ‘accounted’ for deserve justice.

If he hasn’t repented, now might be the time.

It’s never too late to repent and turn to Christ. As long as you are alive.

Jeffery Dahmer turned his life around and became a Christian while in prison. Then they shived him.

I one day hope to meet Dahmer in Heaven.

4 years? Good thing he didn’t do something serious like tell the truth about muzzie invaders, or he’d really be doing some serious time. 🙄

I’m fine with a nazi getting hammered.

BUT I also notice that ISIS is welcomed back to Europe and that there will be no ISIS guys being hunted down in the year 2087, even though we know their faces and names.

If ISIS isn’t facing manhunts and Nuremberg trials, then all efforts to hunt down nazis from the 1940s are nothing but a farce.

Any prison sentence at age 95+ is same as death sentence. But any crime deserves some form of punishment. And you are right, in Germany now it is more serious crime to have been a Nazi compared to importing un-vetted Muzzies.
