In the capital they showed their anger through normally taboo slogans, such as “death to the dictator”, chanted by students gathered near Tehran university – a barely veiled attack on the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Clashes with security forces followed.

It was not clear how many were detained in Tehran on Saturday, but scores of protesters are believed to have been arrested in western Kermanshah and eastern Mashhad, Iran’s conservative second city, where the latest unrest began.

I hope the US is not stirring this up ala Arab Spring, and then we’ll have to go in there and clean up - or else there will be a vacuum that is filled by Really Bad Guys.

This is what Obozo should have done. This is part of the US and Israeli long game. Iran is not a mullocracy. Under Trump, watch it go back to the Shah.

“...This is what Obozo should have done....”

Can you really imagine Obama doing ANYTHING to stop the mullahs? He’s on the same side as them.

Have you been paying attention? The Mullahs ARE the really bad guys. They started out with Carter's blessing. Even though Carter pulled the rug out from the Shah, they took the opportunity to take American hostages. The hostages were released the same day Reagan was sworn in as POTUS, since they didn't want to mess with him.

My concern is that President Trump should not encourage them unless he really plans to help them. I'm not sure how that help would occur.

I suspect that the Russians would be the only party who would step in to help the Mullahs. They seem to like dealing with Bad Actors. I suppose that they think that Mullahs make suitable puppets who help to mask Putin's bad intentions.

Actually, the Egyptian Revolution, setup by the Obama State Dept, threw out the last remaining moderate in the country.
Say what you want but Mubarak understood that if tourists felt threats, they would stop spending $$$ in Egypt.

I was in Egypt back in ‘98 and felt very safe in most of the country.
The other parts...the tour guides told us not to go there.

Tour guides told us this:
Q: “Why do all the cars drive with their headlights off at night?”
A: “To keep terrorists from firing RPG’s at them”
He was VERY serious.

Good luck to the protesters. We know the regime is brutal, remember Nedā Āghā-Soltān. Assassinated during the 2009 protesting.

Either last night or this AM, one of the two commie cables were showing a vast crowd of Iranians in the streets in counter-protest to the protesters and in favor of the regime.

“...Under Trump, watch it go back to the Shah....”

I don’t know about the Shah, but a Constitutional Republic would be an improvement. Give the decent folks there a shot at something better in life than having to bang their heads against the pavement five times a day.

And covertly give them arms and ammunition to make it happen for themselves.

Some words come to mind: “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

I was a baby when JFK got killed. But those words are immortal. JFK had his faults... but in spite of them, I think he was an American through and through (unlike his brother the Swimmer).

We had that mentality as a Country once; we should remember who we are.

If this is a shot at helping take down a major terrorism supporter and delivering a bitch-slap at the islamic supremacists, we should be helping foster it.

"I hope the US is not stirring this up ala Arab Spring,"

I bet we are, as well as the Saudi's and Israeli's but it isn't sinister, IMHO it is just about letting them communicate.

Notice the word "Covert" in this link:

https://www.axios.com/scoop-u-s-and-israel-reach-joint-plan-to-counter-iran-2520518565.html

Iran-Funding-Hezbolla etc ='s powerful P.A. that won't negotiate peace with Israel. Bring Iran to it's knees, the Middle East gets more stable IMHO. So much of what PDJT is doing is for that ultimate goal and getting rid of all the despots without engagement aka GWB.

FWIW perhaps Iran's leaders are bloated corpse politically, much like East Germany in the 80's and Ceausescu's. At some point people get sick of your chit, liberty is too attractive and they explode from their own rot.

Wake me up when the U.S. starts fomenting unrest in radical Islamic sh!t-holes like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

All we're missing here is a Hill & Knowlton bullsh!t PR campaign financed by some D.C. non-profit advocacy group with people like Bill Kristol, John Bolton, John McCain (R-ISIS) and Lindsey Graham (R-Saudi Arabia) among its board members.
