Trump Tower meeting with Russians 'treasonous', Bannon says in explosive book

Trump Tower meeting with Russians 'treasonous', Bannon says in explosive book

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has described the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as “treasonous” and “unpatriotic”, according to an explosive new book seen by the Guardian...

..He is particularly scathing about a June 2016 meeting involving Trump’s son Donald Jr, son-in-law Jared Kushner, then campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya at Trump Tower in New York. A trusted intermediary had promised documents that would “incriminate” rival Hillary Clinton but instead of alerting the FBI to a potential assault on American democracy by a foreign power, Trump Jr replied in an email: “I love it.”

The meeting was revealed by the New York Times in July last year, prompting Trump Jr to say no consequential material was produced. Soon after, Wolff writes, Bannon remarked mockingly: “The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor – with no lawyers. They didn’t have any lawyers.

“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad sh- t, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.”

...

“You realise where this is going,” he is quoted as saying. “This is all about money laundering. Mueller chose [senior prosecutor Andrew] Weissmann first and he is a money-laundering guy. Their path to f--ing Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Jr and Jared Kushner … It’s as plain as a hair on your face.”

Bannon has always been all about himself. But if this is true, it means that he thinks being against Trump is now the winning side.

But he’s a snake, and I suspect he’s always been a snake.

From the same comments on the Donald as your link:

[
From a different commentor, fyi:

Regarding the Bannon “quote”:

The author whose book this quote comes from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Wolff_(journalist)

In its review of Wolff’s book Burn Rate, Brill’s Content criticized Wolff for “apparent factual errors” and said that more than a dozen of the subjects he mentioned complained that Wolff had “invented or changed quotes” that he attributed to them.

Hmm, gosh, more than a dozen people claimed he invented or changed quotes from them. In just ONE book!

His former employer, New York Magazine, has called him an “angry man for pay” and a “media provocateur”]

All of the above I copied from a comment there

Another comment with the exact alleged Bannon quote I thought was worth bringing over:

((((Here’s what the Guardian says the quote is:

“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.”

Not exactly a declaration that it was treasonous. Also, remember he’s talking about Kushner and DTJ.

He hates, and I means HATES Kushner.)))

Something seems very strange about this.

Since a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich, and knowing how things have become in this country, that the justice system is becoming so politicized, you wonder if Bannon was pushed to say this somehow.

And maybe Breitbart isn’t doing all that well anymore, either. Remember how they lost their major advertisers after a liberal boycott?

Looks like Trump agrees with me:

“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind.”

Statement from the President of the United States

Holy cow Steve. Zip your lips. I am a Steve Bannon supporter. He was major in getting Trump elected but...zip it! The USA does not have time for another Trump saboteur.

The scurrilous libs will pick up on every negative statement from Steve Bannon. He is going to be their tool and fool?

Oh, the NeverTrumpers are orgasmic today.

Why? Do they suddenly love Bannon? Personally, I have no problem with all of this because it keeps the news cycle fixed on Trump and his guys or former guys. Any publicity is good publicity. It keeps the spotlight off of the Democrats and makes them look irrelevant.

The only time when I'll say that someone like Bannon has "turned" is if he's seen teaming up with Romney or any of his minions. That will always be a bridge too far for me. The Romney-GOP are worse than Democrats.

OK. If you say so.

And by the say, I’ve got a bridge over the East River that I’ll sell you for ten bucks.

Who’s Bannon got left? Clearly he feels he got burned. But he really has done nothing but mess up lately and antagonize Trump supporters. I don’t know how long nevertrumpers are going to applaud him, and lefties won’t after this news cycle. He sure has lost a lot of potential Breitbart readers today. What’s his gain here?

Did Trump really release that statement though? If so he’s going to come across as an idiot for falling for this.

Bannon should sue whoever is doing it because he’s making him out to be some kind of white supremacist. Look at this latest tweet calling Trump “The great white hope”....
