Ammon Bundy's Malheur Trial Lawyer Agrees Not To Practice Law In Oregon

Marcus Mumford, the lawyer who represented Ammon Bundy in the Oregon standoff trial, agreed Monday to no longer handle federal cases in the state.

Bundy and six co-defendants were acquitted in October 2016 of charges stemming from the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a federal bird sanctuary in southeastern Oregon. After the surprising verdict, U.S. marshals tackled Mumford and shocked him with a stun gun as he argued with a judge over whether Bundy should continue to be detained.

Mumford was charged with failing to follow a federal officer’s orders and failing to stop resisting arrest. The charges were later dropped, but Oregon chief U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman sought to revoke Mumford’s ability to practice federal cases in Oregon.

Mumford initially fought the ban, but acquiesced Monday at a brief hearing in Portland. He and his attorney, Matthew Umhofer, declined to comment.

Mumford faces a bar complaint in his home state of Utah. A formal finding against him in Oregon might have worked against him in Utah, so he voluntarily agreed to abstain from practicing in a state in which he rarely has a case, said Matthew Schindler, a lawyer who defended one of Bundy’s co-defendants and has vigorously supported Mumford.

“I don’t believe that Marcus did anything wrong during the course of the trial that I participated in,” Schindler said outside the courtroom Monday. “But I think that under the circumstances there’s no question this was the right decision to make.”

Bundy retained Mumford less than four months before trial. Mumford quickly made an impression with his combative style and speech impediment — a stutter. He and U.S. District Judge Anna Brown clashed throughout the weeks-long trial, and the tension came to an explosive end after the verdicts were read.

“What we need far more of in our legal community are Marcus Mumfords,” Schindler said. “We got plenty of people that are nice and polite and are willing to come in and walk their clients into guilty pleas. To me, it’s a privilege to be with somebody who is willing to give whatever it is they’ve got to give.”

Seems to me like they don't like defense attorneys who win big cases and stand up for their client's rights. Since they couldn't make the charges stick and actually get a conviction, they decided to use threats regarding his standing in Utah to get him to stay out of Oregon.

President Trump could easily clear Mumford of any restrictions at all.

I hope they ask.

Liberal fascists within the justice system need to be purged.

Why we have liberal fascism?

Yes....that is how our “Justice” cartel system works today. They can’t stand it when the cartel can’t control a judge or politician, so they have to remove him and the lawyer “knows” if he doesn’t do what they command him to do, he will end up suicided or his family killed or demeaned and destroyed—like the evil Marxists did to Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

They control the MSM and Hollywood, textbooks and “art”—so they can control all the perceptions of the ignorant masses so Lies become Truth in this Orwellian world where “marriage’ can be between two sodomites now, and we teach little children satanism— to have “Pride” in people who desire to sodomize others and we have a “Natural Right” to kill our own genetic offspring— to wipe out the Chrsitian worldview from their minds, and destroy a true Justice system for a Vice system which will create only slaves for a state and chaos, and then tyranny.

All contact between U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman and U.S. District Judge Anna Brown needs to be made public.

We have all seen how these Leftist work behind the scenes.

This is crap. Mumford gave a spirited defense of his client. As a good lawyer should.

Jail for judges who violate our right to lawful government, in any way.

I’ve seen several articles on this story and I still don’t know the “official” basis of the post-verdict action taken against Mumford.

Here's a story on the incident: Ammon Bundy's Attorney Won the Biggest Case of His Life. Then He Was Tased in the Courtroom.

He wanted his client, Ammon Bundy, released after being found NOT GUILTY in the Malheur trial, but the judge said to hold him for pending charges in Nevada for the Bunkerville standoff. He merely demanded to see a warrant for Ammon's arrest, and then was tackled and tased in the court room.

Okay, but what was the official excuse the authorities used? Contempt of court, being disruptive, etc? Did they claim he was moving threateningly toward the judge? Simply making a request usually doesn’t result in such actions.

Okay “disorderly conduct and resisting lawful order.” Have those charges been dropped?

Yes, per the article, all charges have already been dropped.

Okay “disorderly conduct and resisting lawful order.”

IMHO, "disorderly conduct and resisting lawful order" are charges that really mean "not obeying your rulers".

Yes, but I was looking for the “official” reason. There’s always something on paper that lists the transgression that was supposedly committed.
