“who the hell would work for $11 an hour? ”

You just insulted a big segment of the population. That’s a pretty good starting wage for someone in high school having their first job. Or a housewife looking to make a little extra money for the family.

If someone is laid off, I think any job is respectable versus not working or taking taxpayers money.

The cost-of-living is very cheap here in East Tennessee. A couple that both works at Walmart will be bringing in about $40,000 a year. They can live quite nicely on that here.

This is all fine and dandy but how will this affect PRICES??

Walmart's overall food prices already are beaten by several stores: Kroger's Food 4 Less is one of them.

That’s barely $300 after taxes for a 40 hour week.

Most of the employess don’t get 40 hrs a week. Wal-Mart keeps them at 30-35 hrs. Part time employees get zero benefits, unless something has changed?

Unreal, look at the revenue of this company, $121 BILLION in profits, almost half a trillion in net sales and they are paying employees less than what freakin’ illegals get? I live on the east side of Long Island in farm area, if you offered farm work to an illegal for 88 bucks a day BEFORE taxes which probably comes out to $60 a day they’d laugh in your face. Actually $100 bucks a day was what they were paid 15 years ago when I worked on a farm, now it’s probably $150. This Walmart is making money hand over fist from taxpayer funded employees!

Look at this “Walmart CEO Michael Duke’s $35 million salary”...WTF??

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/walmart-ceo-pay-hour-workers-year/story?id=11067470

Why are people taking this job?? The economy is through the roof, lowest black unemployment in history, record setting stock market.

Oh that’s right! Obamacare! Another great benefit of Obamacare, yes if they work over 40 hours the employers have to buy into scamOcare. So not only did it destroy healthcare especially for the self employed, it also destroyed fulltime jobs. I dont think anything has changed with that. All Trump did was get the Rats and RINOs to repeal the “fine” if you didn’t buy into the scam.

Moon pies? Why would they stop selling those? Don’t tell me, “moon” offends Muslims. Trump should get on the asses of these companies, these guys are making billions every year from taxpayer subsidized employees because they are paying them so low that they would qualify for food stamps and medicaid which WE end up paying for when THEY should be paying for it. Their CEO made $35 million last year.

Hey Oprah.

Will you and your fellow DemonCrooks re-up corporate rate to 35%?

And when corporate income taxes drop, then what happens?

Walmart has been cutting need for staff. My local one may be an “early test site”, so don’t know how far all the stores have gotten, but...
Local Walmart has ripped out half the clerked checkout lines and put in LOTS of self-checkout kiosks (8-10 serviced by 1 clerk). They’ve also put in a “Pickup tower” right at the front, encouraging people to order online and spend less time actually in-store, with automated pickup & checkout.
Less staff with same revenue means they can pay fewer workers better (attracting better workers) with no net change in labor costs.

“Are your really going to not buy the coffee maker if the price goes from $29.99 to $30.99? Of course not!”

The rest of that argument is are you willing to pay $32.99 if it’s built in Kansas instead of China.

I will

As will I. Anyone on this site who will not will never understand that the path to Republican inroads in the African-American community is through that attitude. Just getting to a consistent 15-20% (someone like Jack Kemp used to get nearly HALF the A-A vote in his district!) vote there pretty much gives us control of elections.

Employ under-educated A-A youth and you gain their political loyalty.

This is all fine and dandy but how will this affect PRICES??

Given this is being driven by tax cuts, I see this action as revenue neutral at worst.

If the stores are not profitable what’s your point? Subsidize losing locations?

One has nothing to do with the other.

At my Walmart you just can’t find a single soul in the grocery department to help you. Is THIS the future?

Dunno, but I live in one of the most expensive real estate markets, and plenty do work for that. How they make it I can never understand.

Maybe they’re mostly retirees and they just want something to do? That’s crazy that kind of money, that’s if they even get full time because I know a lot of these companies hire part time so they don’t have to give benefits so what do these people take home? $150 a week? They cannot be doing that job for money.

I’m just curious because I don’t know anybody who would work for $11 an hour. That’s crazy, that’s volunteer work and for a company that has $450 billion in sales every year? No thanks.
