Best I can tell Sam’s Club is pulling out of Alaska completely.

Many of these are right-to-work states, so no notice necessary. Besides, I bet they got a few weeks severance. Better, as others write, to be abrupt than have employees on site knowing their jobs are gone, working last days—why risk the results that might cause?

[ In some cases, employees were not informed of the closures prior to showing up to work on Thursday. ]

Will these employees receive 2-4 weeks pay?

Meanwhile, you cannot find a place to park outside any Whole Foods in America.

Doesn’t look like the exceptions pertain in this situation.

It’s directed for employees over 20 hours, which most probably are.

At least they will get 30 days pay, but still a crappy way to treat employees.

I hate those warehouse stores. My sister loves them and I’ve gone a few times with her but I refuse to pay a fee to spend my money.

I suspect closure decisions were more a function of Costco sales rather than Amazon sales—Sam’s Club carries big sizes of many if not most products. However, I don’t buy large sizes/quantities of items from Amazon, so I could be wrong.

In my area, Costco is crazy busy, Sam’s Club not so much. From what I read, seems all Sam’s Clubs in western suburbs of Chicago are closing

I think the locations of the stores on the list in the article might give a clue. Many are in low-income areas, while others are in blue areas.

My local Sam’s caters to small businesses and upper-middle class families, and the one in my Iowa hometown goes after retirees and university/government workers.

That works. As long as they actually do the “give them 2-4 weeks pay” part.

If they gave them all 90 days’ pay they could probably avoid it.

[Maybe thats’s what enabled the pay raises touted in earlier headlines today.]

Be careful!! There may be liberals lurking. They won’t be able to understand any possible connection.
