Senate Democrats relinquished on the government shutdown Monday, agreeing to vote to reopen the government but insisting theyll keep fighting for illegal immigrant Dreamers over the next weeks, with another shutdown deadline looming Feb. 8.
Im glad weve gotten past that, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said just ahead of a vote.
The vote to end the filibuster was 81-18, clearing the way for passage of the stopgap spending bill.
The House was expected to pass the bill later Monday, which would end the shutdown after three days.
The breakthrough came after Mr. McConnell said he would allow the Senate to conduct a freewheeling immigration debate in February, unless they come to a deal before then on how to handle the Dreamers.

Blinking? and winning?
Schumer waves the white flag.
This is not a conservative victory: Trump and McC seem willing to permit DACA without the wall. Hope I’m wrong, but wall “authorization” is not “spending.”
Okay, they had their tantrum, now back to business.
DUmmies are whining “Why is this being described as “folding”?”
Dang. I was hoping we could leave the unconstitutional 80% ofr the feds shutdown and just bring back the 20% constitution part. They would have done our work for us.
RESTORE OUR FREE CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC to MAGA.
All kinds of WINNING. What a fiasco.
Schumer’s constituents should drag him from his office in shackles!
I was hoping for 6 months or longer.
Sounds like the dems have this completely bass ackwards.
A major victory for the dems? Theyre forcing the GOP to deport the Dreamers within 18 days?
They have veered waaaay off the mainland this time.
DACA isnt even up for renewal until March.
Playtime is over.
Release the FISA memo .
They still think they will get their amnesty bill out of the Senate.
They have a lot of GOP support.
Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Cochran, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst and Blunt are all in favor of amnesty.
I dont know if not having a budget in over 10 years, CRs to infinitum, 1 trillion dollar + annual deficits and unfunded liabilities of 300- 400 TRILLION dollars constitutes winning
The government shut down about a month to early.
Schumer couldn’t hold out one and a half month when the DACA expires.
Thankfully I am in the 20%, but shutdowns dont work that. I agree with your sentiment, though.
They KNOW it was trending strongly against them. “Schumer Shutdown,” was brilliant !!!
