What is most disturbing about the affair is the continuing complicity of the mainstream media, who pretend to be able to set aside partisan biases in the interest of the country but instead are pulling as hard as they can - there are exceptions, of course, but disappointingly few - pulling for the perpetrators as if this were some sort of middle school football game. It's simply devastating to have to come to grips with American politics having jumped into this puddle of sewer water, whose slithering inhabitants appear to consider themselves worthy of extralegal rule.
