In Gender-Inclusive Guidelines, Catholic College Eliminates Use of ‘Husband’ and ‘Wife’
Breitbart ^ | 2 Feb 2018 | THOMAS D. WILLIAMS, PH.D.

In its guidelines for the use of gender-inclusive language, the University of Dayton proposes the elimination of the gender-specific terms of “husband” and “wife,” substituting them with “spouse, partner, significant other.”

Despite the fact that the Catholic Church views matrimony as a stable union between a man and a woman, the Catholic college informs its students that “gender neutral language does not assume a gender with the individual who is being discussed” and thus spouse, partner and significant other are preferable to the traditional terms of husband and wife.

The watchful eyes at The College Fix, a conservative, student-staffed campus watchdog site, discovered the curious norms being fed to students and staff reached out to university officials for comment.

“The gender inclusive language is an educational resource — it is neither a guide nor an advisory nor does it represent University of Dayton or Women’s Center policy — and has been posted on the website for at least three years,” read a statement provided to The College Fix. “It is an educational resource geared to assist those who prefer to use gender inclusive language as well as those who wish to avoid assuming the gender of an individual being discussed.”

Along with offending terms such as husband and wife, the university proposes an extended list of expressions that should be replaced by other words that do not convey a determined sex.

Thus, expressions such as “common man,” “best man for the job,” and “gentleman’s agreement” are to be eliminated in favor of more inclusive terms, such as “common person,” “best person for the job,” and “informal agreement.”

Similarly, “mankind,” “man-made,” and “manpower” are more properly expressed by the gender-neutral terms of “humankind, society,” “manufactured, synthetic,” or “workforce, labor,” the university website states.

Gee, and all this time I thought that Catholics considered marriage to be one of their seven blessed sacraments.

They should look up the terms “sponsus” and “sponsa” in the Code of Canon Law.

It is.

Certain --- uh, in-DUH-viduals --- on the University roster evidently think otherwise.

Wheat/weeds scenario.

When does a Catholic institution cease to be a Catholic institution?

Seems to me that question ought to be answered. Plenty of CINO schools and universities, unfortunately. And it gives a bad name to the authentic institutions.

Pope Benedict was “retired” and a Marxist replacement installed. It looks like the “Liberation Theology Movement” has won.

Of all institutions in society, one thought the Catholic Church— which supposedly teaches and upholds the sacrament / sanctity of marriage, would have been the last place this kind of PC- bullshit could have ever succeeded in infiltrating. Truly, Satanic powers and principalities are attacking us all

Sloth/inaction/cowardice on the part of bishops here.

A bishop can deprive any institution in his diocese of the legal (canonical-legal) right to call itself Catholic.

Thus Manhattanville College and a couple other institutions have been "taken off the list" over the years. It happens extremely rarely, though. And there's no provision in civil law to prevent anybody from calling their particular whackadoo project "Catholic." We've got as little legal protection as Quaker Oats.

the gender-neutral terms of “humankind, society,

humankind still has “MAN” in it. Shame on them for suggesting that it would be acceptable to the PC police.

What about scientific terms such as “daughter particles”? Will those terms have to be changed as well?

Many "catholic" colleges have moved far away from Catholicism.

What's scarier is the distance between higher education and knowledge, morality, and truth.

Interesting you wrote that, Mrs. Don-o.

After I saw this article I called a member of my Church to discuss it and we agreed the finger points (at least to a large degree) to the Bishops.

People don’t like to hear it, but this country was strongest when the Catholic Churches were so crowded every Mass they were bursting at the seams.

Coincidence? I think not.

Each day, the Catholics in areas like this, resemble their left wing buddies in actions and what they say.

Their Pope often sounds like a cross dressing Pelosi with his comments.

Funny, I thought the Catholic Church has been on the precipice for awhile. (Because of my interactions with brothers, nuns etc.) It’s because us Catholics have been too unconcerned about homosexuals in our mist (they seem to dominate the orders).
I admit our local Bishops haven’t been a source of inspiration for many years (previously Bishop Wuerl, now Bishop Zubik who likes to use gender neutral language when describing priests who break their vows of chastity). That in aggregate such people wouldn’t treasure the sanctity of marriage is exactly where I thought this would go.

The Jesuits can be blamed for many things, but the University of Dayton isn't one of them.

The university was originally founded by an order called the "Society of Mary" or "Marianists". It appears that they've mostly abdicated their leadership. The last two presidents have been laymen.

Yes, I see. Well, the good Lord says we are Very Good just the way he made us

(notwithstanding what some college somewhere seems to think)

and when a people or nation lose its moral moorings, that people or nation decays... and eventually falls, dies

Rome comes to mind, obviously...
