I just finished a book about a man who traveled through Africa, called Crazy River. One of his observations was “why are the women all working, in the fields, carrying food and water, carrying for children, etc, but there’s no men around. Where are the men?” The response he got was “they are thinking.”

“Wow, Ghana sounds almost as bad as New Jersey”

Almost. It’s likely easier to live in Ghana. you don’t have to sign a waiver for sunny-side-up eggs (Eggs Florio) but you can’t get taylor ham (Which will kill an adult male in 3 slices)

It’s easier to defend yourself in Ghana, the Muslim influence is a bit more advanced than it is in NJ (Although Camden and most of the north may be just as muslim) and you can die from venturing out into both the jungles of Ghana, and the town of Elizabeth.

So you’re spot on - we should hang out !

If the characterization was wrong it would be easy to demonstrate that it was wrong.

at least Queen Elizabeth tried to clean up a corner of the s..hole and instill rules of common decency in conduct for that century. Certainly can’t say the same for Mugabe, who considers the machete the solution to all his problems.

Oh man. its not just armed guards. every half decent neighborhood had high barbed wire fences.

the projects and ghettos had no fences.

On the main highways through the country that ran past tough neighborhoods you could see groups of men looking speculatively at the traffic. any weakness would be exploited. heaven help the truck bus or car that broke down on the highway. It would quickly be stripped.

the newspapers were full of echos of the obama administration. It may well be an act of god that mugabe was kicked out in rhodesia. the new rulers there are inviting back white farmers. this may force the radicals in south africa to change their tune as to the future of the afrikkaners whom they pledged to kick out and expropriate their lands. as it is — the murder rate of south african farmers remains high.

what it looked like to me when I was there last year was that the chinese are going to be the new colonial masters in africa. their big projects were in every country I visited.

my wag is that the famous cairo to cape town railroad project that the british started 100 years ago will likely be finished by the chinese.

Yeah, I had heard about high security walls. Quite the scary stuff.
