Germany's Angela Merkel finally reaches coalition deal with SPD reports

They needed an extra few days, but negotiators from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), their Bavarian partners the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) appear to have finally hashed out a contract for a new grand coalition government — probably ensuring that Angela Merkel will stay in office for a fourth tenure as German chancellor.

German news outlets including ARD and Der Spiegel reported just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday — the third day of "extra time" — that a final contract was agreed, to be formally announced later in the day.

I'm afraid to ask what kind of concessions she agreed to on immigration, on the environment, and on German aid to the other EU nations.

So, so sad.

Both sides of my family go back five generations in Germany.

How many times can a great country attempt suicide - 1914, 1933, 1998 (Gerhard Schroder) - before it succeeds?

Both sides of my family have heavy German lineage. I find it very sad that Germany is slowly dying as a country and Germans are fading away. It goes the same for the French, British and other Western European countries.

The Germany we love is 100 years old—same for France, Holland, or England. Christian Europe is history.
