The numbers: Initial U.S. jobless claims fell by 9,000 to 221,000 in the seven days ended Feb 3. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch forecast a 235,000 reading.

The more stable monthly average of claims declined by 10,000 to 224,500, the government said Thursday. That’s the lowest level since March 1973.

The number of people already collecting unemployment benefits, known as continuing claims, dropped by 33,000 to 1.92 million.

What happened: Missouri, California and New York saw big declines in unadjusted jobless claims, but in most states there was little change.

I must have missed a meeting ......

Jobless claims at a 45 year low, companies raising wages and giving bonuses (over 200 large companies - at least 200 that are reporting), huge $$$ flowing into the treasury ....

AND

the stock market tanks.

So, now that an ( R ) is in the White House good news is bad.

Fear of interest rate increase is the excuse, funny though, 2 or 3 years ago fears of interest rate increases would cause the market to contract 50, 75, maybe .... maybe 100.

Today it was over 1,000 - and that is just from today.

I smell a rat.

I spoke to my sister earlier about this earlier, we are both 60 plus, (her 2 yrs older), I think we need to soon turn those fat boys sitting in their BR playing video games to get back out there like we did and cut grass, rake leaves, clean gutters, shovel the snow, etc etc.

Sadly, the so-called “unemployment” numbers don’t really tell much of the real story. It doesn’t count those who quit looking for a job, or have never looked for a job seriously. It doesn’t count those who have run out of unemployment benefits. It doesn’t count those who choose to not work (there are many thousands who sit at home and do absolutely nothing constructive day in and day out while drawing some form of government “benevolence”. They don’t count.
