KIM JONG-UN’S sister sat just six feet from Donald Trump’s vice president Mike Pence as nuclear tensions loomed over the opening ceremony at the Winter Olympics.

North Korea’s most powerful woman was sitting behind the VP as she sat with the South Korean president Moon Jae-in.

Kim’s Yo-jong shook hands with the leader him before taking her seat in the VIP box to watching incredible ceremony.

The 30-year-old is the youngest daughter of previous North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, and is a major force in Pyongyang.

She is the first member of the Kim family to visit the South since the Korean War.

Despite being dubbed the “Peace Olympics”, nuclear tensions continue to loom over the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang and Seoul marched together as a unified team, much to the delight of the Kim Yo-jong who waved with glee.

She is due to have a sit-down luncheon tomorrow with President Moon along with the rest of the North Korean delegation – including the man sat next to her Kim Yong-nam.

US officials have remained suspicious over Kim’s intentions as the North cosies up to the South over the Olympics.

Vice president Pence reportedly snubbed Kim Yong-nam at a pre-opening ceremony dinner in the hours before heading to the stadium.

He allegedly left after just five minutes after realising North Korean delegates were in attendance.

Trumps number two has talked tough as he arrived in the South, pledging to ramp up “maximum pressure” after the Olympics.

This is a direct snub to Pence whose delegation specifically asked their S. Korean counterpart that he does not want to come across N.Koreans while in S. Korea.

Why? They care very much about what U.S. or N. Korea will do. They can set aside everybody else to consider their request first. The whole political show now revolves around two countries. 그런데 미국은 더 강경해지고 있습니다. 평창에 오는 펜스 부통령이 북한에 대한 전략적 인내가 끝났다고 한 데 이어서 미국 측은 북한 인사과 동선이 겹치지 않게 즉, 마주치지 않게 해달라고 요청한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

이 소식은 남승모 기자가 보도합니다.

평창올림픽 미국 고위급 대표단장인 펜스 부통령이 한국 방문의 목적을 공개적으로 밝혔습니다.

미국의 한 행사 연설에서 북한에 대한 "전략적 인내의 시대는 끝났다는 간단명료한 메시지를 전달하러 간다"고 말했습니다.

북한의 도발에 대해 일종의 무시 전략을 썼던 이전 오바마 정부와는 차원이 다른 대북 압박을 위한 평창행이라는 겁니다.

미국은 특히 펜스 부통령과 북한 측 인사의 동선도 겹치지 않게 해달라고 우리 정부에 주문한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

한 외교소식통은 "미국이 북한 측과 동선이 겹치지 않기를 바라는 것으로 안다"며 "청와대도 북미가 접촉하는 모양새를 굳이 연출하려고 하지는 않을 것"이라고 말했습니다.
