The US-led coalition killed more than 100 Assad regime fighters in eastern Syria on Wednesday, officials said, in the largest deliberate strike carried out by Western forces against pro-Syrian government troops.

The coalition said it struck regime fighters with airstrikes and artillery after they launched an "unprovoked attack" against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Western-backed rebels fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) in Syria.

"We estimate more than 100 Syrian pro-regime forces were killed while engaging SDF and coalition forces," a US military official said.

That is called a real “red line” and that is what happens when it is crossed.

Does this mean we are now fighting on the side of ISIS?

“War means fighting, and fighting means killing.”

Of course, sure. Couldn't mean anything else.

So per the other thread:

“Another update:
US F-15 fighters, Apache helicopters, heavy artillery and special ops forces took part Thursday, Feb. 8 in the early morning attack against pro-Assad, Hizballah and Shiite forces who were crossing the Euphrates to eastern Syria. DEBKAfile’s exclusive sources report that the US special operations forces posted on the river’s east bank saw a Russian team of military engineers laying a floating bridge across the river 8km north of Deir ez-Zour. Around 500 Syrian commandos, Hizballah and Shiite militiamen, under Iranian command, were sighted about to make the crossing. US jets and helicopters went into action when the crossing began, destroying the bridge. US special operations waiting on the eastern bank wiped out the Syrian allied force as it landed, as well the the bridgehead they had started setting up. US-led coalition spokesmen estimated that up to 100 Syrian and Hizballah fighters lost their lives in the engagement, possibly including some Russians. There were no American casualties. https://www.debka.com/us-strike-russians-laid-euphrates-bridge-among-targets/

Okay, so, they were trying to lay a portable bridge, that was, per these articles, enough of a provocation.

SDF, the ones we back, conquered Raqqa, the ISIS capital. I don’t know where we’d be without that.

The open question though, is Turkey seems to attack the Kurds and basically nothing happens though I know officially, they are going after certain Kurdish armed organizations.

Pretty fascinating situation to watch.

We are on the side of the neck cutters who do not make videos with victims in orange jumpsuits when they cut necks.

We are on the side of the guys who flew the planes on 9/11.

We imagine that we can create peace in the Middle East.

We are fools.

So much for the “No more regime change.”

Now we are back to fighting on both sides.

It’s time to just get the hell out of the mid-east.

USA apparently thinks it will decide where Syrian national boundaries are. Sadly, I don’t think preventing Syrians from recapturing Syria is the _right_ thing to be doing.

If you are on Assad’s side, you are on the side that bombed 250 Marines in ‘83, you are on the side that is flooding the West with refugees. We are on the side of the Kurds and Assyrians (Christians), the SDF, not the BS side of terrorists.

Syria and Russia don’t fight ISIS or did at a minimum. That’s one reason we do not have the same outlook.

When Obama and Hillary and McCain and the entire LameStreamMedia says the Assad should go - I think that maybe he isn’t the bad guy.

This is beyond crazy. We are meddling in the business of sovereign states much like the old imperial powers did before WW I.

I dunno. The more dead raggedy men, the better. Maybe if we keep this up, we can get it down to zero. That would be nice.

The SDF is a bunch of scumbags from all over the place, in 90% of cases they aren’t even Syrian.

we’re going to get sucked into the problems other people even as we try to fend off and intractable coup of our own.

“No playing with other people’s coups until you take care of your own coup.”

this is stupid.

No, I think we’ve changed their letterhead again and they are called something else now.
