An official at former President Obamas State Department has confirmed a claim made by Republicans that former British spy Christopher Steele and allies of Hillary Clinton gave him intelligence reports claiming that President Trump was compromised by the Russians.
In an op-ed for the Washington Post titled Devin Nunes is investigating me: Heres the Truth, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jonathan Winer says Steele and Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal approached him with separate dossiers claiming malfeasance between President Trump and Russia.
Winers op-ed confirms the chain of events Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) detailed in a criminal referral for Steele, in which he asks the Justice Department to investigate the former intelligence agent for allegedly lying to the FBI about his contacts with the media.
It’s a shame that absolutely nothing will come of this damning evidence. That just proves how unmoored from morality this nation has become.
Was turning the Department of Justice into dirty-trick “plumbers” for the DNC wrong?
Should they have not done that?
If only they had known that sort of thing was frowned upon.....
Not to mention the State Department.
Why is Sid not being brought before a grand jury. He had no reason to have or be given any classified information.
ding ding PING!
John Adams is proved right again...
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
link if you can get past the paywall...
I’m tired of seeing whiner comments like yours at the top of every single post. Give it a rest, go cry to your momma, but knock it off.
Boy....that is a timely quote.
John Adams is proved right again...
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
Even if only 1 in 20 people in the DOJ, State, FBI are decent and honest, there is going to be volumes of truth coming out.
Public opinion and the media can do or say whatever they want. There is the matter of law, and the law is coming and once it starts it’s going to be quite entertaining.
This thing is gathering serious momentum every single day.
You have no clue here. All this has just started. After decades of government corruption in every direction, it’s going to take more then a year to fix it. If not for Trump, you’d be listening to Hillary Clinton speeches for the next 7 years while their leftist finished off the country.
Winer is pulling the ‘din know nuffin’ card...just old friends chatting..
Sorry. This is NOT a political matter. This is a legal matter. The entire point of this whole saga is that legal matters and political matters should be separate things. Everyone should be treated equally under the law regardless of position or party.
If the executive branch lets all of this fizzle into nothing, THEY are to blame - NOT the American people.
This is Trumps moment to prove that he is for truth and justice. I hope he does the right thing.
A bunch of prominent people will end up going to jail for this. It was a criminal conspiracy from the get-go to take down a presidential campaign.
From the WaPo article above
“In late September, I spoke with an old friend, Sidney Blumenthal, whom I met 30 years ago when I was investigating the Iran-contra affair for then-Sen. Kerry and Blumenthal was a reporter at The Post. At the time, Russian hacking was at the front and center in the 2016 presidential campaign. The emails of Blumenthal, who had a long association with Bill and Hillary Clinton, had been hacked in 2013 through a Russian server.
While talking about that hacking, Blumenthal and I discussed Steeles reports. He showed me notes gathered by a journalist I did not know, Cody Shearer, that alleged the Russians had compromising information on Trump of a sexual and financial nature.
What struck me was how some of the material echoed Steeles but appeared to involve different sources.
On my own, I shared a copy of these notes with Steele, to ask for his professional reaction. He told me it was potentially collateral information. I asked him what that meant. He said that it was similar but separate from the information he had gathered from his sources. I agreed to let him keep a copy of the Shearer notes.”
And he goes on, in CYA mode
“Given that I had not worked with Shearer and knew that he was not a professional intelligence officer, I did not mention or share his notes with anyone at the State Department. I did not expect them to be shared with anyone in the U.S. government.”
Hmmm anyone believe that last line? Then he continues,
“But I learned later that Steele did share them with the FBI, after the FBI asked him to provide everything he had on allegations relating to Trump, his campaign and Russian interference in U.S. elections.”
He continues the Russia Russia Russia theme/talking points.
They never thought they would get caught.
Yes to this, “It was a criminal conspiracy from the get-go to take down a presidential campaign,” may I add and destroy a sitting President!
Wake me up when something moves in a direction of prosecution. I think I’ll get a good nap.
