Delingpole: ‘Sinking’ Pacific Island Actually Getting Bigger Shock(DOH!)

Tuvalu – the Pacific island group often cited by climate alarmists as the nation most immediately at risk from rising sea levels caused by ‘global warming’ – is not sinking after all.

In fact it’s getting bigger, scientists now admit.

A University of Auckland study examined changes in the geography of Tuvalu’s nine atolls and 101 reef islands between 1971 and 2014, using aerial photographs and satellite imagery.

It found eight of the atolls and almost three-quarters of the islands grew during the study period, lifting Tuvalu’s total land area by 2.9 percent, even though sea levels in the country rose at twice the global average.

DOH! Well that'll change this summer when the arctic loses all of it's ice as predicted would occur several years ago. This'll be the year. Yup. No doubt about it. If that fails, we could send some troops there and it might tip over like Guam.

I hope the islands don’t tip over.

What is “climate change” in quantifiable terms? I think it is Bull crap.

Calling Congressman Hank Johnson! Hank Johnson to the white courtesy phone. We need your “expertise” in “island stability!”

"even though sea levels in the country rose at twice the global average"

Sea levels can rise unevenly?

IOW, the sea levels rise, on average, is a measurable DECLINE.

Yes, they rise faster around the 3rd world countries. The only way to save them is to throw money at them until they aren’t considered 3rd world anymore.

Posedion is racist. He makes seas higher around islands of browness.

Oops. All the water it displaces will cause massive flooding elsewhere.

Coral atolls are made from coral, which is made from animals that will build their coral towards the surface of the water. If the sea level rises, the coral will rise with it.

My first thought as well.

I guess I could see tidal differences which averaged could be more than the global average.

A lot of it would depend on what and how they are actually measuring and what the references are. Definitional details cause lots of problems.

There's more island because there's less water ...

... global warming is evaporating all of the world's oceans!

My wife worked in reservations for an airline a few decades ago. She once had this customer that wanted to go to Hawaii, but there were no openings on any of the flights.

Well, the woman would not take no for an answer, no matter what my wife said. She was one of those folks that thought that if she pushed hard enough she could get what she wanted. My wife finally told her, “if we tried to put one more person on that island, it would sink.” The lady apologized and backed off. :)

krakatoa sank into the ocean back in 1883
I’m sure it was Global Warming which caused it.
Or maybe it had something to do with the big BOOM.
Nah...

Oddly enough, I have wondered for a while why there haven’t been more concerted efforts to build islands, or rather to get the sea to build them for us.

As a little background, even in the ancient world there were effort to build “protected harbors” for ships, with calmer waters, by narrowing inlets with rock to reduce the speed of tidal surges. But there was a nagging problem, that such protected harbors rapidly filled up with sediment until they were no longer navigable. It was a great technological breakthrough when they discovered a way to make such harbors “self cleaning”, to flush out their silt.

However, why not design a silt collecting net at sea, with the intent to create an island sized sand bar, periodically adding concrete strengtheners.

https://i.imgur.com/Wt9vd2E.jpg

And then another trick. When the silt and concrete mound are close enough to the surface, someone discovered that conducting cable with a small current running through it strongly attracts coral, which accumulates many times faster than it would naturally. So if the mound were covered with a cable grid with a mild current, within a few years it would develop a strong coral reef over it. This would do much to strengthen the artificial island.

From there, return to alternatively collecting silt and building coral until the island had breached the surface.
