Gov. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., has withdrawn honorary “Nebraska Navy” admiralships from two University of Nebraska-Lincoln educators who led a protest against conservative student group.

Graduate teaching assistant Courtney Lawton and associate professor Amanda Gailey both made headlines last August after 'they harassed' Turning Point USA chapter president Kaitlyn Mullen while she held a recruiting event on campus.

Lawton was filmed flashing the middle finger and yelling “neo-fascist Becky, right here” at Mullen. The educator also accused the student of wanting to destroy public schools and universities.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln responded by telling Lawton that her contract would not be renewed once it expired in November of that year....

“Courtney Lawton’s behavior does not embody Nebraska values, which the original request represented,” he said.

Gasp! A Republican with cojones. Kudos to the gov.
Long past time we start pushing back on the non-achievers (e.g., college “profs” who demonstrate the intellectual acuity of a third grader).

Turning Point USA is really gaining steam on college campuses across the country.

Governor as in chief executive of the state as in he alone has the power to sack them immediately as she should have done without waiting for the school to intervene.

Who gives a toss about some silly honorary title?

He certainly can apply pressure in all the right places without the need for grand televised gestures.

I like that the governor said he was withdrawing the rewards that were awarded them as a “clerical error” meaning they should not have received them in the first place. That is rubbing their noses in it. Good for him

It is beyond hate at this point - they literally act like people they disagree with don’t even have the right to exist.

....”Turning Point USA is really gaining steam on college campuses across the country”....

That’s because they’re well organized and understand what they are up against....they’re ‘prepared’.

Courtney Lawton got what she deserved confusing her False Witness with Free Speech, and interestingly, in researching her I found that FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) has gone bad and is defending her, petitioning for her reinstatement while admitting the facts cited by the University in her non renewal were correct.

My grandson is a sophomore at UNL and I warned him about political correctness and those who are looking for a Christian conservative male to target. He only dates girls he knows are Christians. So sad you have to be concerned able hurting some drama queens feelings or accused of racism or....liberals sit in judgment like they even know right from wrong. Praying President Trump can appoint judges who will bring some wisdom and common sense to this nation and stop the attack on Reason.

This is exactly what needs to happen. There has to be a cost for being discriminatory against conservative students.

This is a nice punch back but I believe punching back twice as hard is still warranted.

If the University is a state funded school I would think the governor does have the authority. IMO

Mizzou found that out after the republican legislature cut their budget.

Of course, with all the students who transferred and those high school seniors who marked mizzou off their list, they don't need as much money.

State colleges & universities almost always have “independence” (depends on state & school!) from the “political process” - meaning the state government’s direct management & control. Managed usually by a Board of Regents, Visitors, etc. Who usually do little more then make sure they and their pals have great tickets for sporting events.
