Student Reveals Broward Sheriff Resource Officer Hid Behind Staircase, Pointed Gun At “Nothing”
GATEWAY PUNDIT ^ | 2 24 18

Senior Brandon Huff rushed to the building where the shooting was taking place when he found out his girlfriend was inside.

She texted me, ‘There is a shooter in the room. I love you,’ so I freaked out. I dropped everything in my hands,” Huff said. […]

“The school resource officer was behind a stairwell wall, just standing there, and he had his gun drawn, and he was just pointing it at the building,” Huff said. “Shots started going off inside, and you could hear them going off over and over again.” […]

“He was pointing his gun at nothing. He was pointing his gun just at the building with kids in it, and he was just talking on the radio, and he never did anything for four minutes,” Huff said. […]

“He’s the only one with a gun,” Huff said. “He’s wearing a bullet proof vest, he has all that while school security guards, coaches were running in shielding kids — Coach Feis, Hixon were running in, shielding kids from bullets and losing their lives while he did nothing.”

No attempt to save him— I just don’t think “school resource officers” are the solution to school shootings.

Certainly the shooter didn’t think they were, either.

Armed teachers and coaches, and even armed students, would do a better job defending kids than a “school resource officer”.

Because normally these type events don’t turn into long gun battles like you see on TV shows. If the youngster would have had any rounds coming his way the outcome could have been better than the way it turned out.

"Potential shooters need to know that the possibility of opposition exists - from multiple possible sources. That alone will stop many of these attacks."

Yes, the first and best purpose of a screened and trained group of volunteers within the school is deterrence: the shooters who are mostly cowards to begin with will think twice about entering a school with an unknown number of armed opponents.

I don't know about these big city geography teachers, but where I'm from a couple teachers in the Army Reserve have had deployments to the middle east and served their country. They would have done better in this crisis than the cowards out in the parking lot waiting for the perp to run out of bullets.

Now there we agree.

I have always felt the SRO's to be pretty much worthless as far as security goes.

Teachers who are armed are a much better solution.

Why did he have bullets in his gun if it was to be used only to scare kids?

In the Parkland case, their security system had a dismal record concerning student safety and security that should be brought to public discussion particularly beginning with this school having a so called “gun free zone”.

It did have an officer who may be armed assigned to patrol the multi acre site in a golf cart, but bans guns from the rest of its internal security

Criticism arose when the officer assigned to this duty who was nearing retirement He was reported to arrive late and after Cruz had entered the building but stationed himself outside the large structure and had called for support. Two officers responded Which and did the same. He then left before Cruz did.

Those laissez faire attitudes strongly suggest examining records of reporting how the bureaucracy at this school handled student vs student, and student vs teacher (Cruz was accused of this) altercations, vandalism, thefts, and drug use. Which are bound to occur were being dealt with.To which a dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents were reported after a visit by Obama occurred.

Because of these Ding Bat liberal policies it brings up another question. Just how safe and secure are those kids ? There’s a lot of krap that happens; Assaults, fights, thefts, books and items stolen, teachers accosted, kids intimidated....

Examine records reporting how student vs student, and student vs teacher altercations, vandalism, and thefts, which are bound to occur were being dealt with.

Because in an educational unit this size it’s pretty clear their security system failed . In a secure system Cruz would have never gotten inside.

Now that school board has decided to tear down the school which was probably raised by a funding referendums and the grounds house a memorial.

Or, alternatively, you make the school defended and put a squad of officers or even a pair.

Together they would be more likely to psych themselves up against a psycho with a rifle.

The dust is beginning to settle on this tragedy giving us a much clearer picture on the causes. Wholesale government failure on many levels yet the left wants the people to cede the government even more power by taking away our unalienable rights.

The founders made it difficult for us to enact kaws for a reason.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

After reading the entire thread, while I appreciate your heartfelt concern for the loss of life, your all talking thru your butt. You have no idea what your talking about. First the shooter had a body vest on, second he was shooting with a RIFLE, never mind the brand, infinitely more accurate than a hand gun, by a factor of 10. The officer had a 9mm side arm, with effective range accurately of 10 yards or 30 feet. Just getting into range to fire with students scrambling and firing out of range could injure otherwise safe students as he was in classrooms on 2 of the 3 floors, and going up and down stairwells. So finding the shooter, getting to him, and finding cover while getting there would be difficult. If you have ever walked the halls of a 3 story school, you know the halls are very open with little cover. Now add that this guy is overweight, 54 years old and going against a teenager with good knees and hips with body armor, and you have no cover or back-up, with the wrong weapon, its a recipe for suicide.
A teacher with a .38 stands the same chance, and I notice nobody went in a fired a shot. So woulda, coulda, shoulda, is only for arm chair quarterbacks who shoot off their mouths but never have to put up or shut up. When his fellow broward sheriffs showed up, they also stayed outside, behind police cruisers...ever wonder why? Coral Gable officers went in and freed students in hiding 30 minutes after the shooting started. Condemn one, condemn all, but to say you know what you would have done is merely bravado, you were not there, you did not do anything, but unlike him, he, while behind cover, communicated with the sheriffs office, and gave what information he could, at close range, he could have taken out the shooter if he came out the west side of the school, in fact he exited from the 3rd floor down the east stairs and out of the school after dumping his vest and weapon on the third floor. Notice, no other police officer stopped him as he exited school grounds. Just sayin...

Together they would be more likely to psych themselves up against a psycho with a rifle.

Well, four of them were not able to do it.

And whole squads have stayed out "evaluating the situation" at other school shootings.

I would say more officers is not the answer.

Anybody on earth would have done better. That frikken coward shouldn’t be allowed human company after his failure.

We have way too many swaggering oafs who haven’t any right at all to call themselves men.

Men fight for their families, their community, and their country.

I just don’t think “school resource officers” are the solution to school shootings.

Peterson was seasoned trained law enforcement officer with 32 years experience. Learn it.

They had no idea what he was wearing or what he was shooting because they were hiding outside.. But protecting those unarmed students was their duty which they failed miserably. SOP with an active shooter at a school is to engage immediately, even if to disrupt his plans or lend aid to the injured.

To engage was their duty. Instead they hid behind concrete and their cars out in the parking lot. Disgraceful as is your defense of their actions.

When LEOs for whatever reason won’t engage an active shooter, the movement to disarm law-abiding citizens is completely illogical. President Trump skilfully directs the dialogue with respect to that issue, and no amount of leftist hysteria will eliminate that core of truth.
