Do they really hate ordinary people that much?
Yes, they do. For liberals, the distinction between the "dumb masses" and their enlightened selves renders life meaningful. Disdain for ordinary folks is not just an ancillary trait of liberalism. It is fundamental to the its nature.
At its heart, liberalism is a gnostic religion, and the essence of that religion is the believer's faith that he possesses the means of changing the world for the better. The belief that the world must be changed requires there to be a mass of individuals whose lives are in need of change. Following this logic, it is the liberal, not those deplorables in need of change, who knows what must be changed. For liberals, there must be a mass of people in need of this knowledge for life to make sense.
Above all, liberalism is a hubristic faith. Its followers share the fatal flaw of pride in their own intellectual capacity. This is why liberalism appeals so strongly to those in the knowledge trades: teachers, journalists, writers, psychologists, and social workers. The sense of "knowing more than others" is its strongest attraction particularly to the young, who otherwise know so little. Liberalism confers, or seems to confer, almost immediate power and authority to those who embrace it.
The left's obsession with superior knowledge runs through its entire history. As Woodrow Wilson remarked, the "instrument" of political science "is insight. A nice understanding of subtle, unformulated conditions." Lyndon B. Johnson thought "a president's hardest task" is "to know what is right." And the most hubristic of all is Obama's "We are the ones we've been waiting for." Yes, we are wonderfully bright, and we've been waiting eons for ourselves to appear.

Save Thy people, O Lord,
and bless Thine inheritance.
Grant victory to Thy Church over her enemies,
and protect Thy people by Thy Holy Cross!
Pinging this, brothers and sisters, because the article exposes everything that is contrary to our beloved Prayer of St. Ephraim that we offer so frequently in this blessed season of repentance.
O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Your servant.
Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed are You, unto ages of ages. Amen.
When an author calls it “liberalism” and not the more descriptive term “Progressive” that fully encompasses the ideology, I have to question their understanding of the problem.
Well, spiritual nature abhors vacuums too. From an apprehension of God as the personal wise shepherd to One who makes rules that everybody else should follow, Christendom decayed. And the decay has right and left flavors.
And dealing charitably with liberals is part of the penance... Still game?
“Its followers share the fatal flaw of pride in their own intellectual capacity.”
It isn’t intellectual capacity. It is the ability to memorize textbooks. Problem with that is anything outside of a textbook, (we’ll call it common sense) and a liberal cannot order dinner without his head exploding. My wife’s entire family are liberals and in the 30 years we have been together I have never seen them deviate from the same 2 menu items, chicken parm and spaghetti or beef with broccoli.
Absolutely: Theosis is hard work.
It’s all epitomized by “deplorables” and “crumbs”. The first sunk Hillary, the second, whoever runs in ‘20.
Or salvation, as in the Western idiom.
The more notable the Christian, the more difficult his life. But it has to show forth as the glory of God. Not as as the glory of some earthly school.
A well-written and thought out essay.
Yes, this is how the left think.
They “know” better, and they “know” that people must be forced to do what they want them to do.
Everything flows from those assumptions.
Nothing we can do will appease them. As David Horowitz said with them “the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution”.
If we gave up semi-autos tomorrow, then 22’s would be the issue. They will never stop until they have us completely subservient and powerless. This is not a move to achieve any goal. It is about the accumulation of power and nothing else.
To be credible, God has to be shown. And that can be hard even on believers. They may too need drilling to do it better.
If people need to believe, a credible object of faith must be apparent.
Yes... Satan drives his/her believers mad with insatiable desires.
but the fact remained that this was a predatory state which the Czar and a small group of noblemen and bureaucrats ruled for their own exclusive benefit...The ruling group owned all the wealth, enjoyed all the privileges and monopolized all the political power, and it did not intend to give up any of its prerogatives. It considered the peasants to be little better than animals..."
Sounds pretty similar to me.
Liberalism is narcissism.
The people will win!

I think we see the same thing on other issues too.
Take homosexual marriage, for example. And the whole range of “LGBT” issues. First, they worked on homosexual marriage, and got their successful court rulings on that subject. Then, they moved on to the transsexual bathrooms and gender identity issues.
It seems clear, that they decided to go for homosexual marriage first. Then, once they institutionalized homosexual marriage, then they moved the goal posts and decided to push transsexual/gender dysphoria/ how we have 56 gender identity issues.
Very well said.
Bookmarked and bumped.
