“Maybe better signage is needed ...”

Picked up on that, too, did ya?

I’m thinkin’ maybe a couple a grand in new signage a half mile up the road in either direction ... yaknow, the typical “25MPH ZONE AHEAD” sort of thing that’s COMMON all over the country...

Until those signs go in, though — saying this little zit on the map ISN’T a “speed trap” is nothing more than a sneering bit of chicanery with the exact verbiage. Yeah, so, what they’re doing doesn’t fit the *EXACT* terms of the definition; it for SURE fits the spirit of the definition.

“In Texas the speed cannot be dropped by more than 15 mph to help prevent this. “

It's the same here in CA Apart from the occasional CHP parked just over a rise or on a downhill grade, there are no speed traps here.
I do remember fondly driving from Ft Worth to Dallas when Texas was trying out speed cameras. I drove by one of them that was standing like a sentinel on the median that some irreverent Texan had obliterated with a shotgun. It was little more than a post with a few shards of metal attached to the top and a bunch of wires hanging like “hair” out of the post. Good on you guys! Then there are the GATSOs in England that locals like to "set alight" by placing a diesel soaked tyre (we must use correct English doncha know) and firing it up. There are numerous websites that show this handiwork.
