Nunes: FBI on shaky legal ground with use of Dem-funded dossier to wiretap Trump campaign
The Washington Times ^ | March 2, 2018 | Rowan Scarborough

Rep. Devin Nunes says the FBI violated its own rules, and may have skirted federal law, by using a Democratic Party-bought dossier to spy on a Trump campaign volunteer.

In a letter, he has asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to “hold accountable” those who oversaw the warrant on Carter Page.

The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence told Mr. Sessions that the FBI’s Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide (DIOG) contains specific instructions on how to apply to a judge for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) wiretap.

Mr. Nunes, California Republican, says the FBI clearly violated those rules.

The manual, Mr. Nunes says in his March 1 letter, states, “The accuracy of information contained within FISA applications is of utmost importance …. Only documented and verified information may be used to support FBI applications [FISA] to the court [FISC].”

He said that Justice Department and FBI witnesses confirmed that the unverified dossier made up a big part of the warrant application and without it there would have been no application.

Mr. Sessions already announced Tuesday that Justice Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz will investigate how Justice Department and FBI agents handled the warrant presentation, which was renewed three times.

The dossier was written by former British spy Christopher Steele and funded by the Hilary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Mr. Steele and his Kremlin sources accused Mr. Page of serious crimes. It says that while on a trip to Moscow in July 2016 to deliver a public speech he met with two Kremlin figures and discussed receiving bribes for sanctions relief.

Wray and Sessions/Rosenstein have it handled.....no investigation or prosecutions will happen, just like they didn't happen with Hillary's private server, or the IRS corruption.

They PRETENDED to investigate Hillary and Lerner.

The ONLY one investigating is Mueller and his staff of Democrat activists.

Sessions has allowed him to ruin the President, his family and his staff's reputations and livelihoods. Session's has allowed the threat of criminal prosecutions and jail to hound this WH since the Inauguration...preventing the new Pres and his staff from performing their duties under normal circumstances.

When are they going to announce criminal charges?

Since everyone knows the FBI is corrupt to the core, I hope it’s soon.

With another full blown DOJ IG investigation the earliest criminal charges would be is 2019. In other words, never. Nobody is going to go to jail for these crimes.

I agree but all we hear is Nunez saying how bad this all was...no action is taken. Very sick of it all.

They need to understand Andrew McCarthy’s critically important point about “vicarious credibility” — that is, that what matters isn’t the (supposed) credibility of Steele but the credibility of Steele’s sources. Steele’s sources (bunch of Russians passing along hearsay) were not credible and certainly were not verified by the FBI.

If they don’t take that critical extra step beyond Steele to his sources, then the argument falters and the Rats skate.

Rod gets to be the Acting AG, and he gets to eat dinner with the recused Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III.

I’ve no idea, if Rep Nunes has his say at least there’s a chance it’ll happen.

Nunes is even more impressive than Gowdy, but Gowdy shot blanks and I have a feeling we are seeing a replay.

Perhaps Nunes is nothing more than the Deep State throwing us a bone and give us false assurance there's pursuit for justice.

“Skirted the law” ??? From what I read in Nunes’ letter to Sessions, he actually listed the laws that were violated.
