Immigration Disaster Looms in Germany

Milton Friedman once said open borders and the welfare state are incompatible. This is easy to prove in California, where, according to a recent essay by Victor Davis Hanson, half of all immigrant households are on welfare and the state accounts for a third of the nation's welfare recipients with only 12% of its population, even as 20% of California's population lives below the poverty line. Recent figures published in Europe's economic powerhouse, Germany, indicate that following Angela Merkel's disastrous open-borders experiment of two and a half years ago, that country is well on its way to joining California in proving the wisdom of Friedman's admonition, to the huge detriment of the German people.

Official figures of the German statistical office show that beginning in 2015, Germany accepted 1.4 million asylum applications. According to detailed figures from 2016, 71.4% were granted asylum or "subsidiary" protected status, while 28.6% were rejected. Being rejected, however, did not at all mean that you had to leave Germany or were in danger of being deported. Most of those rejected filed an appeal (64,251 in 2016), and 31.7% of those received a negative decision. Even then, few of those rejected left voluntarily, and even fewer were deported. According to the daily Die Welt, citing government figures, most of the migrants remain in Germany, regardless of the asylum decision.

Because very few of the refugees would qualify as persecuted for their political or religious beliefs, the traditional reasons for claiming refugee status, under Merkel, the German government has de facto created a right to better life for migrants from poor countries, which means that the economic incentives to migration remain extremely powerful. Indeed, nobody in Germany has any illusions about this.

It makes you want to cry, to rage, and astonishment the German people haven’t dragged their leaders into the streets for retribution.

Give away free stuff, and the freeloaders will show up in droves. Whoda thunk it? If the Democrats ever get the majorities in the House and Senate, they will bail out their failing welfare states that provide the big electoral votes for them. Then we are finished.

Immigration Disaster Looms in Germany

"Looms," says the headline?!

I have lived in a small town in Germany for the past 36 years. I have seen it happening - rather abruptly.

When sitting in my morning commuter bus, traveling from one sleepy little town to another, I note that roughly half of the school-age passengers are visibly non-German. A great many of them are also audibly non-German (meaning: They have no qualms about jabbering away in their strange argots or are simply unable to speak the local language). Among the older passengers, I might occasionally be sitting next to or opposite a native German. Maybe a little old German lady, making big eyes at the big, tough-looking, bearded "yutes" glaring down at her.

I always feel like leaning over in my seat and stage-whispering, "Ihr schafft das, ja!" (Alluding to Merkel's "Wir schaffen das!" = "We can handle it!).

Bear in mind: This is not some metropolitan area - but rather the deep province.

Regards,

It’s March 1945 in Germany and they don’t even know what hit them.

The ability to call someone a "Nazi" still ends the discussion in German politics.

This may be about to change.

If it does not, sooner or later, they will have the real thing.

The disaster has happened, and will get worse as they make millions of little jihadi babies that are paid for by the a$$hole Germans who diligently go out to work to pay for the little jihadi babies.

Yep.

“IN two generations the native Germans will be the ones being deported.”

Yes, the cultural costs and the discord caused by the newly imported “diversity” will be much higher than even the economic costs. Western Europeans are sleep walking into a world of hurt.

Freeper pepsionice (American expat in Germany) runs a blog called Schnitzel Republic and has an interesting report about some local charities getting heat for only giving food to those with German passports as the immigrants were starting to overwhelm them.

Germany has a HARTZ IV program of welfare, and that there are 650,000 people on it with a LARGE percentage being the immigrants. What boggled my mind is that he reported a lot of poverty among pensioners and others. In Germany? The "Powerhouse of Europe"?

This is exactly why no wall will work keeping illegals out. If you incentivize illegal immigration, people will find a way to get there wall or no wall.
