Hey Bert if free trade is so good why aren’t the Euros and others putting out fig leaf and saying they will NOT retaliate? It seems the rest of the world id quick to pull the tariff trigger. I expected kumbaya and stuff.....

I’m quite aware that they’re doing it for CAFE. But EcoBoosting nearly every car has its limits.

I have a friend who works at Ford. If you want bigger, non turbo motors in Fords, get Congress to get off their arse and roll back CAFE. This isn’t something they’re doing because they really want to.
Also, the beefiest block that will fit in the current Fusion is smaller 2.7L version of the twin turbo SHO or engine. It’s called the Fusion Sport and makes 325hp out of the box. Funny fact is that the thing is just a tune away from 450 wheel horsepower without sacrificing significant longevity or reliability. Good luck getting that out of an NA engine for just the cost of a tune; nobody offers a 500 crank HP naturally aspirated V6 in a production vehicle and there are few N/A V8s that can pull off that trick.
There’s a whole new generation of materials being used here and turbo motors are not the unreliable short-lived pocket rockets of old. As such, turbo motors (until US and world legislation changes) are here to stay. *Everyone* is going turbo to meet the conflicting demands of the laws and the consumers. They don’t have much choice.
George Washington was. With regard to the present and trade, he is irrelevant.
