A search by a U.S. firm for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is expected to complete its survey by mid-June, the Southeast Asian nation said on Saturday, as families marked the fourth anniversary of one of aviation’s greatest mysteries.

Flight MH370, carrying 239 people, disappeared on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

Australia, China and Malaysia ended an unsuccessful A$200-million ($159.38 million) search across a 120,000 square-kilometer area in the Indian Ocean in January 2017, despite investigators urging authorities to extend the operation 25,000 sq km north of the search area.

At this late date I don’t see what it matters, even if they find it.

If sufficient information can be gleaned to definitively determine the plane’s fate I think that would make a very big difference.

That’s exactly why Pluto was so quickly classified as a planet almost immediately after its discovery. The search lasted 24 years, and the astronomers were getting so frustrated that anything they discovered beyond the orbit of Neptune they were going to call a planet. Even a tiny ball of ice that is nowhere near the ecliptic. Sorry if I altered the subject a bit.

Every accident is a piece of info for flight safety.

If they have nothing to examine, there is nothing to learn about making things safer.

Richard Quest will be delighted.

I wonder if they will bring back the cockpit?

No. I didn’t think it then and I certainly don’t think so after 4 years of nothing.

Moslems don’t do secretive. They like a big bang that everyone knows about. No guessing, no spy-like cloak&dagger. Even if it was kind of “quiet” some Moslem group would’ve proudly claimed it for their own.

It’s not a Moslem problem.

Chinese agents took over the plane, killed everyone on board and landed the plane in a remote part of China, where the plane and everyone aboard was destroyed. This was done to prevent a potential WMD event over Beijing. No remains will ever be found, unless it’s a scrap out in the ocean planted by the Chinese.
