3-D Praying Mantis Vision Confounds Evolution

BY JEFFREY P. TOMKINS, PH.D. * | THURSDAY, MARCH 08, 2018

In the animal kingdom, many types of creatures use stereo vision to determine the distances between them and visible objects. In humans, each of our eyes records a slightly different version of what is observed. These two different views are then accurately merged in our brains to produce a single image—computationally using the differences between the two images to allow us to visually gauge depth and distance. This process, referred to as stereo vision, isn’t unique to humans. Animals like monkeys, dogs, bats, cats, and horses also use it.

A different Mantis.

The analysis just says that the Mantis appears to have 3D vision.

That does not undermine TToE even the tiniest bit. It just says that is how the Manis evolved.

It is just a strawman argument: “The Mantis evolved differently therefore TToE must be false.”

Also, it does not address the fact that there are probably billions of unexplored insects who may or may not have stereo vision.

Unique features in a species have no meaning, one way or the other.

“It just says that is how the Manis evolved.”

This seems to be an assertion without evidence - indicating assumption and pre-belief.

Me or the article?

TToE is the established science (real, not like AGW). The article says that the Mantis negates TToE. It does not.

Do we agree?

“Me or the article?

I meant you.

“TToE is the established science (real, not like AGW).”

It does not appear falsifiable.

.... only if you can explain two things:

(1) irreducible complexity....(make sure you realize what that actually implies), and,

(2) lack of (predicted by TToE) fossil evidence.

how does something that is irreducibly complex evolve step by step?

>>It does not appear falsifiable.<<

Find a modern horse skeleton at the Jurassic era strata.

I am not going to refight the CRevo wars here.

I just post to let lurkers know there are people here who DO know science.

Feel feel to post from the science version of CRacked magazine.

I have weighed in and my argument is unassailable.

>>how does something that is irreducibly complex evolve step by step?<<

The term “irreducibly complex” has no scientific meaning. It is a specious term used by people who do not know science.

Yet another lame ICR article saying “we can’t perfectly explain X under cherry-picked conditions, therefore God!”
ICR would do well to learn humility, including that a couple pages written to summarize the totality of creation & explain it to goat herders prooooobably isn’t grounds for perfectly understanding detailed development of biology. ESPECIALLY if we’re just figuring out now that mantises have 3D vision.

>>(1) irreducible complexity....(make sure you realize what that actually implies), and,<<

As I said, there is no such term in science.

>>(2) lack of (predicted by TToE) fossil evidence.<<

Science makes no negative predictions. But if you find a modern skeleton at a prehistoric stratum (sorry about tense in prior post) then you have falsifiability (No such word but you know what I mean).

Done with this topic.

You can research the CRevo wars for more info if you wish. I am the only survivor (that I know of) and intend to stay that way.

Yeah. Mantids are so cool. We get them hanging around on the roofs at my job every few years.

We oughta mechanize some seven foot tall ones and send ‘em after terrorists.
Mantids or Xenomorphs.

I challenge any of the Creationist to find a Stone Age era kangaroo skeleton between the mid-East and Australia. They won’t. No kangaroos on the Arc.
