I watched a shootout in Tulsa many years ago. I’ve spent a fair amount of time on the range.
I can confirm it sounds like a cap gun going off in the open air.
I was 25-100 feet away from the (various) actions.
Given that the Sheriff is a muslim and a Democrat, you might not be too far off.
AND he hand-picked some of his staff, it appears. Don’t know if he hand-picked this guy or not.

This is the one that always gets me and I was around when cars did backfire but nothing like the pre sixties backfires . But when was the last time you heard a car backfire ????
I guess that’s why people now think it is fireworks rather than a car backfiring. Still, a professional should know the difference.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on this. I shoot 5.56. It’s very loud. It definitely does not sound like a cap gun.
It does not pass the smell test.

I’m basically talking 9mm — my .223 was not too loud.
At least I’m guessing they were shooting 9mm - .45. I was crossing a parking lot when it started. Eventually, I look up and one of the guys is about 25 feet away from me shooting from behind a vehicle at another guy (from his blind side). I believe that guy would up on the payment with a couple in him - he was still alive when the first responders showed up.
Now, I have not shot my 5.56 yet — I don’t want to get my rifle dirty, LOL.
(plus ammo is too expensive for me these days)
