Posted on 03/27/2018 8:33:11 AM PDT by Cheerio
The Trump administration announced Monday night it will be reinstating a citizenship question to the decennial census in 2020, prompting threats of lawsuits by prominent Democrats.
Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra separately announced they will file respective lawsuits to stop the citizenship question from being asked during the census.
Holders statement called the move by the Trump administration a direct attack on our representative democracy.
Becerra called the decision, illegal.
The Commerce Department, which oversees the census, issued a statement announcing the decision:
Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that a question on citizenship status will be reinstated to the 2020 decennial census questionnaire to help enforce the Voting Rights Act (VRA). Secretary Rosss decision follows a request by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to add a question on citizenship status to the 2020 decennial census.

The citizenship question will be the same as the one that is asked on the yearly American Community Survey (ACS). Citizenship questions have also been included on prior decennial censuses. Between 1820 and 1950, almost every decennial census asked a question on citizenship in some form. Today, surveys of sample populations, such as the Current Population Survey and the ACS, continue to ask a question on citizenship.

Eric Holder is not licensed to practice law in California. Ef him.
But he stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.
Heads are exploding over this all over liberal land. At first I thought this was a big nothing as it is just a question. But all the right people are against it so this must be a very good thing.
Simple question in court, who has authority to set questions? Is the question of citizenship illegal when asked, when it was done in most previous census and is the core consideration in the constitution? Hopefully even the 9th circuit would throw out this lawsuit!
Nothing is simple and straightforward when it comes to Liberal jurists RESISTING Trump. There will almost surely be an injunction at the outset.
another example of cal not following federal authority they will lose billions because they need money to service illegals
Anyone have an address so we can send Eric a case of clown noses and shoes?
California is REALLY pushing my State’s Rights patience.
I am HUGE believer in the 9th/10th Amendments but there are some things that are TRULY federal and Census (in the USC) is square in the center.
The libs really screwed up when they stopped AZ from protecting the border. That established that there are areas that are 100% federal.
Blowback. Live it, suck it, libs!
Don’t hold your breath!
They will find a judge and unless its fast tracked they win through a attrition
They have a million Jay Sekulows and Larry Klaymans on watch
You have to admire them they make it very difficult for that which they oppose to govern
We were never remotely that effective against Obama or Slick
>>Nothing is simple and straightforward when it comes to Liberal jurists<<
But the damn GOP should have been in court EVERY DAY of the obozo administration.
You an despise the libs agenda but you have to admire their persistence.
Look at the freaking budget and other stiff coming out of Congress. You would SWEAR the democrats have veto-proof majorities in both houses!!
Why isn’t eric holder, hillary and bill clinton, the podesta brothers and adam schiff in jail?
How much evidence does Jeff Sessions need?
Or is it that birds of a feather thing? Or maybe we are a two tier system of justice one for us and one for the rulers.
GMTA — same post different words FRiend!
EF him, but he can probably get a guest admission before the bar for this “important” case.
The argument will surely center around interpretation of how representatives are allocated in the Constitution. And, in California, it will probably carry the day. And, perhaps in the Ninth Circus.
That’s enough misinterpretation to carry us past the census date, regardless of what the Supreme Court rules.
Also, remember that if anyone should know how to judge-shop, it would be Eric Holder.
Finally, if I were an illegal, I’d never fill out any government form if I could possibly avoid it. I’d never know if they were going to come after me.
citizenship seems more relevant than Race.
One year I got the American Community Survey. I answered very few questions ( which generated in-person visits from somebody with a cli-board)
The instructions for inputing Race include a sample. It said something to the effect that, using one letter per box, please input Race as such - RACE, so that’s what I did. I wrote in RACE.
Retarded “wiseass latino” Beccera claims this is illegal. Good, I’ve got hundreds of census forms listing my ancestors here. I’M GOING TO SUE THE HELL OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT FOR ASKING THEM IF THEY WERE CITIZENS. I’LL OWN THE GOVERNMENT.
Why isn’t that treasonous Bastard in handcuffs?
