---Editorial Comment by Poster---
Quick Summary:
This ordinance bans possession or sale or transfer of a wide variety of semi-automatic rifles (Specifically including the Colt AR-14) and imposes registration requirements on city residents who may wish to retain any of the prohibited items for a limited time period. Due to magazine capacity limitations, the ordinance effectively bans a number of semi-automatic pistols, including most Glock models, and some Sig-Sauer models.
Additionally, the ordinance forbids transport of loaded firearms within the city- which renders a CCW permit largely useless.
The full text of the proposed ordinance is available on the City of Boulder Website.
The City Council appears to be favorably disposed to passing this ordinance.

Didn’t San Francisco get smacked down for doing the same thing?

I assume this news is from Boulder, Colo., the Berkeley of the Midwest. If so, it’s hardly a surprise.

I got my NRA notice today and told my wife I’m going to attend the meeting but didn’t think I would get a seat due to the number of 2A supporters that would be there. Remember ‘Jill Adler Grano’. If anyone can discover who is supporting her, please let everyone know.

forbids transport of loaded firearms within the city. So, I cannot drive through with them? Will UPS and FedEx be arrested for carrying a package through the city to deliver on the other side?

Okay, sorry... they spoke of loaded, but the possession and all that they want to ban is problematic. (and hopefully FedEx and UPS are not delivering loaded guns to anyone!).

The Denver-Boulder axis of evil strikes again. If you carry, stay away from both.

It does but the courts ruled for injunctive relief for Denver's fascist gun laws. Boulder may have to go to court to get the same if they impose these new laws.

Texas anticipated this kind of BS and wrote the law so it could not be changed by local authorities.

AR14. Is that the one that only holds detachable magazines of 10 rounds or less?

Boulder. 5 square miles surrounded by reality. Another reason never to visit. However I do not believe they can ban transport of loaded firearms. Denver tried to nullify the state law that you can carry in your car without a permit. They lost. As long as someone s only passing through and not stopping in city limits the state law applies. Get out of your car its a different story.

Wasn’t there a Colorado state law that prevented cities from coming up with their own patchwork of gun laws? I think the state law was put in place because of what Denver was doing.

I’m sure CO has a state pre-emption law that forbids counties and municipalities from enacting gun laws stricter than that allowed by state law.
If Boulder passes this ordinance, expect the NRA to sue to get it overturned. Its not allowed to do it.
And in CO, anti-gun politicians have lost their seats. This is mainly a rural state Denver-Boulder notwithstanding.

Additionally, the ordinance forbids transport of loaded firearms within the city- which renders a CCW permit largely useless. At the very least, that one violates state law.
