Skip to comments. The courts are deciding who's to blame for climate change

Oil companies? The government? The public? All of the above share the blame.
There are numerous ongoing legal challenges in an effort to determine whos responsible for climate change. Exxon is under investigation by state attorneys general, cities are suing oil companies over sea level rise costs, and Our Childrens Trust is suing the federal government for failing to protect their generation from climate change. At the heart of these legal challenges lies the question who bears culpability for climate change and liability for its costs and consequences?
The case against the fossil fuel industry largely relies on proving that these companies deceived the American public about the threats posed by consuming their products.
But of course, the American government has failed to implement climate policies over the past two decades.
Theres plenty of blame to go around for the mounting climate costs, but so far, taxpayers are footing the whole bill. There may eventually be a court case in which the fossil fuel industry, like the tobacco industry before it, is held responsible for its role in deceiving the American public about the dangers of carbon pollution. And American voters will eventually punish the Republican Party for its decades of climate denial and policy obstruction. Accountability is coming.

Shouldn’t they rather decide who is lying?
Excuse me? It has all been pointless, but the government, at every level, has been trying to satisfy these people. But it's impossible. They always want more concessions, and they have the nerve to say "you haven't done anything".
” the American government has failed to implement climate policies over the past two decades”
That’s because there isn’t any.
How about China and India? Are there coal plants in Africa? Maybe this is more about finding out who has the deepest pockets and least political clout?
Yeah. Whos to blame for an imaginary deed. Incredibly Marxist.
Liberals want the courts to impose higher taxes and crushing regulations for them.
Punishing the Republican Party for rebuffing the climate change scam is simply the icing on the cake.
Look to the authors pushing the lie.
How about "None of the above"??
Owl Gore pulled gorebull warming out of his a$$, let him pay for it!
When that question is judicially settled and the proper party to sue for damages is determined then we can move on to the problem of the outbreak of fairies, elves and unicorns that is plaguing our planet and the other problem of uncontrolled proliferation of zombies
Or maybe the whole Global Warming hoax is just that....
a scheme to fleece the United States and bring down the country so a bunch of third world socialists can feel good about themselves.
The un-scientific scientists - like Bill Nye; and Marx was a parasite like those he was railing about.
Why yes Virginia, the loony bin has been breached.
Actually, it’s a way for the globalist oligarch families to punish successful nations and keep any one country from becoming too powerful. That way they can keep their one world tyranny going forever.
The libs are rearranging the Titanic's deck chairs and have changed the name again.
It's not "climate change" or "global warming" anymore.
Now we are experiencing... Climate Restoration.
Note to the Manchester Guardian: wish in one hand and crap in the other. See which one fills up first.
“There may eventually be a court case in which the fossil fuel industry, like the tobacco industry before it, is held responsible for its role in deceiving the American public about the dangers of carbon pollution.”
The oil companies provide the fuel, but ordinary people are the ones converting it to CO2.
The average American probably has heard the claims of the Goresters 10,000 times or more.
The claims are ignored because they are inconsistent the Obama’s globetrotting, rampant immigration, lack of Democratic action, etc.
