U.S. Ally Iraq Joins Russia and Iran, Says Trump's Syria Strikes May Help ISIS
Newsweek ^ | 4/16/18 | Tom O'Connor

Iraq criticized President Donald Trump's decision Friday to target Syrian government facilities suspected to be involved in the production of chemical weapons, saying such missile strikes undermined the wider effort to combat terrorism in both neighboring Arab states.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari spoke on the phone Sunday with acting U.S. Secretary of State John Sullivan, discussing the trilateral U.S., French and U.K. missile attack on Syria, which Iraq considers an ally in the fight against the Islamic State militant group (ISIS). Jaafari emphasized "the necessity to prioritize finding a political solution and that the Syrian people alone should determine their own fate," according to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

I would not include Newsweek...it would have condemned Trump had he not acted as well.

What a frickin mess.

While most of the blame rests on Barak Obama for this disaster, GW Bush set the stage for this with his irrational decision to hand over control of the country to it's Shiite majority and then not secure a long term American presence in Iraq to stabilize the new democracy. Ultimately, Bush is the one who must shoulder much of the blame because he failed to secure the peace and set the stage for the events that followed and allowed Obama to set Iraq on fire and deliver it into the hands of the Jihadi

Bush had peace achieved with a small special forces attack team. Leaving Iraq to the butchers was what made a bad situation explode which is what Obozo wanted.

I can understand the Iraqi concern. Syria and Iraq are at peace with each other, and any change is Syria is likely to be a change for the worse as to its effect on Iraq. If we displace Assad, ISIS will have a crack at gaining power and infiltrating Iraq again.

Iraq had peace before Bush decided to invade, and it turns out there was no valid reason to topple Saddam.

Same thing was true in Libya, with Khadaffi

Seems like the global interventionists are just slow learners

As long as you don’t mind him invading his neighbors every 4-5 years and feeding terrorists around the world.

Spare me the outdated BS...Iraq had nothing to do with the World Trade Center attack, didn’t have an active WMD program and wasn’t a hotbed of international terrorism.

Bush had won the peace and Iraq was on its way to better times

Bush was in a position to dictate terms to Iraq and could have set up long term a troop basing agreement which would have stabilized Iraq and given it a chance to form a stable government

Instead, he refused to cut a long term deal, even knowing Barak Obama would screw up our hard won peace

We could have done the job with a few thousand soldiers in country to act as a tripwire

We still have American troops in the Balkens 20 years after Clinton first sent them
