Connecticut’s legislature has passed a bill that would give the state’s Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote nationally.

The state Senate voted 21-14 on Saturday to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which includes 10 states and the District of Columbia. The state House passed the measure last week, 77 to 73.

Connecticut is throwing away their leverage IMHO. 7 changed EVs would have changed the 2000 election.

But with this plan all candidates need to do is focus on population centers.

This law will only be in force until it requires them to allocate the EVs to a republican.

So, basically, CT is giving its electoral votes to CA and NY.

That sounds unconstitutional; they are disenfranchising their own voters.

Does the Constitution allow this?

The RATs have figured out that they can’t “import illegal aliens to vote for them,” so they’re trying now to bastardize the Electoral College to try and subvert the country. This is simply a method by which they disenfranchise their own voters who aren’t RATs.

Is this even Constitutional?

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Explanation It has been enacted into law in 11 states with 165 electoral votes (CA, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, RI, VT, WA). https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

The odds are Connecticut will someday be forced to give their Electoral College votes to a Republican after their citizens vote Democrat.

Delicious stupidity.

I thought Connecticut voted for Gore in 2000 anyway. But your point is correct. The State is giving up its right to voice against the sum of other states that out populate it. Stupid is as stupid does.

I’m embarrassed to live in Connecticut. It truly is the “Nutball” State.

So all of these states will ignore the will of their own people in favor or NY and CA voters.

A corrupt state deeds its soul and its future to the corrupt party. It “proudly” converts itself into a “one party” entity, soon to enjoy all the pleasures it deserves.

This will last until the first time CT votes opposite the national vote.

Going to kill them in 2020, when their electoral votes have to go to Trump even though the state electorate voted for whoever the D was.

Stupidity of the left cannot be exaggerated.

"This will wind up in Supreme Court."

To me, it sounds blatantly unconstitutional. They are disenfranchising their own voters. Connecticut could vote 90% for one candidate, and have their vote flipped by the national popular vote.

Is this legal? Its obvious intent is to circumvent the founders’ reason for establishing the Electoral College.

This will wind up in Supreme Court.

It may, but this will pass constitutional muster. States can direct their electors to vote by any means. It will not get to SCOTUS, though, because they will not have enough electoral votes to trigger the compact.
