The House sent “right to try” legislation on experimental drugs to President Trump’s desk Tuesday — a measure Trump, Vice President Pence and groups backed by mega-donors Charles and David Koch have repeatedly urged Congress to pass.

The House passed the bill largely along party lines by a 250-169 [actually 267-149] vote.

vote was actually 267-149

147 Dems voted against helping dying people simply because Trump pushed for this bill and because Dems hate Trump that badly.

If there was ever a question about whether Dems actually care about the good of the people, this vote should definitively settle the matter ...

Right to try has drawn backlash from House Democrats and patient safety organizations, who worry sidelining the FDA puts patients in danger.

There are lies, and then there are transparent lies.

They are not worried about patients being in "danger".

The patients have weeks or months to live, and want to try a developmental drug.

You, and your family would to, absolutely!

Only someone truly evil would vote against this. It’s for those who are near death who want to try one last drug not yet through the rigorous FDA process.

It’s not like they have anything left to lose.

Yep - if for no other reason than to help them gather data in case the drug (or a derivative of it) turns out to be a success down the road...grasp the straw knowing you might also be helping future generations.....what kind of evil would try to stop that?

As long as there is informed consent, this is a good idea.

What part of ‘experimental’ a/o ‘on death’s door’ might one NOT understand?

The ONLY reason against this is govt that believes IT has every say over our lives.

A patient and family in extremis might not understand a lot. Informed consent is even more important in that case.

You are correct...the left is just smart enough to know it’s grip on power is slipping away. I predict the commies in Warshington will unanimously vote against (or not vote) every piece of legislation here on out!

Did I miss the mention of Senate approval, or is this some new mechanism by which the Senate is not required to approve legislation?

I went to the link and see it was a unanimous consent approval in the Senate. You might think the lede would include such information.

You missed it. The bill originated in the Senate.

That’s a large leap, don’t you think.

It is in ‘that time’, and NO other, that family/patients might be (mis\un)informed. I’m not buying that.

Nor would I buy GOVT gets the say of when/what the doc and I\family may decide the best course of action

You can bet that McCain has had access to experimental drugs before this was passed.

I am NOT suggesting that the feds keep drugs unavailable for these patients.

What I AM saying is that protocols need to be put in place for informed consent, protocols tailored for these patients and families, and the protocols should be adhered to.

The kind of evil that cares nothing about human sickness and suffering, but curiously does like tidy statistics.
