North Korea says future of Trump-Kim summit is up to Washington: KCNA

SEOUL (Reuters,AFP) - North Korea's vice foreign minister said the future of the summit between Pyongyang and Washington is "entirely" up to the United States and condemned a media interview by US Vice President Mike Pence in which he compared the North to Libya.

"We will neither beg the US for dialogue nor take the trouble to persuade them if they do not want to sit together with us," said Choe Son Hui, according to a report by North Korea's central news agency on Thursday (May 24).

Choe said she could suggest to leader Kim Jong Un that North Korea reconsider the summit, set for June 12 in Singapore, if the United States offends the North's goodwill.

If NK does not get the response of their liking, they will let it expire or hold out until last minute before doing an about-face again.

I suspect the North Koreans are simply game-playing to make themselves out as more powerful than they are.

They know if they call the whole thing off, we’re right back to square one, where President Trump will either sanction them until they all starve, or get tired of them and send the bombs in. So my bet is that the thing’s going to happen.

If Kim shows up, it would be because more than his own interest is at stake. If the summit is canceled, a bigger stick will be applied to N. Korea. But a far bigger stick will be used against China. There will be a whole new package of sanctions which would hit China hard.
