Bill Clinton disputes Dem senator's claim that he should have resigned after Lewinsky scandal
The Hill ^ | 05/31/18 | Max Greenwood

Former President Bill Clinton waved off Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's (D-N.Y.) assertion that he should have stepped down after his inappropriate relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky went public.

In an interview on "CBS Sunday Morning" set to air this week, Clinton said Gillibrand's comment, which appeared in an interview with The New York Times last year, did not take into account the "context" of his decision to stay in office.

"You have to really ignore what the context was," Clinton told CBS's Mo Rocca. "But, you know, she’s living in a different context. And she did it for different reasons. But I just disagree with her."

Gillibrand's comment appeared in the Times in November as dozens of women began speaking publicly about allegations of sexual misconduct by dozens of prominent men in politics, entertainment, media and other industries.

Asked by the Times whether Clinton, who carried on a reported affair with Lewinsky between 1995 and 1997, should have stepped down when the relationship came to light, Gillibrand said: "Yes, I think that is the appropriate response."

She argued, however, that the affair may have been perceived differently in the 1990s than it would have been today.

"Things have changed today, and I think under those circumstances there should be a very different reaction," she said.

Etc...

When the Clinton/Lewinsky affair played out, I predicted this would come back to haunt Democrats.

After Lewinsky Democrats lost any and all moral authority to criticize anyone for illicit affairs.

The day Gloria Steinem stood shoulder to shoulder with Bill Clinton after the affair became public is the day feminism died.

Next Kirsten should bring up the rape and assault charges and Chelsea’s paternity.

Bill also set the precedent that impeachment has no meaning. Another chicken that’s come home to roost, right Maxine?

Gee, Kirsten, what happened? You’ve been in the Senate for 11 years and in public life a lot longer than that and now all the sudden you are bringing this up? Was this your view in 2009? In 2016? Why didn’t you say anything? Or did your views “evolve”?? LOL.

I never saw it as feminism anyway.

I saw it as emasculation.

If you held on to traditional roles for women, you were fourth class citizens to these “agitators”.

I don’t care about Monica, that was consensual. They NEVER talk about the real problem, Paula Jones. Did they forget that Bill had to write her a huge check for what he did to her?

Looks like someone is planning a presidential run in 2020. Wrong color unless she can “prove” she has squaw blood like Fauxahontas Warren!

Don’t forget that the Lewinsky scandal was just the smoke screen Starr generated to obscure the bent one’s real felonies.

“Next Kirsten should bring up the rape and assault charges and Chelsea’s paternity.”

Yeah, Slick should be indicted by the same grand jury that just “fingered” Harvey Weinstein yesterday. They both should be jailed for the rest of their lives. Bernie Madoff needs to have Harvey for cellmate.

Who is she kidding? As long as it is a Democrat there will always be some reason why it is different. If Obama would have hired a male intern for sexual favors he would have been a hero in the media and to the party. It is easy to toss someone from history under the bus. It is always about advancing the size and power of government.
