The disgraced Florida sheriffs deputy who stayed outside as 17 people were slaughtered inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School maintained Tuesday that he was never a coward as parents of slain students railed at him for trying to paint himself as a victim.
The families need to know. I didnt get it right. But it wasnt because of some, Oh, I dont wanna go into that building, oh, I dont wanna face somebody in there. It wasnt like that at all, Scot Peterson said on NBCs Today show Tuesday.
Im never gonna get over this, you know, he said. Those were my kids, you know. I was there to protect those kids.
His appearance on the program comes a day after a Washington Post report in which he said he was haunted by the Valentines Day attack.
According to the report, Peterson, 54, has spent the days since the massacre rehashing what went wrong and asking himself why he didnt run into the building where Nikolas Cruz allegedly was gunning down students and teachers.
But parents of the teens killed during Cruzs rampage werent having it.
Im tired of him trying to paint himself as the victim, Fred Guttenberg, the father of slain 14-year-old Jaime Guttenberg, told the Miami Herald. He is not a victim. He created victims. He keeps referring to them as his kids. They are not your kids, Scot Peterson! You let them die!
This interview makes him even more pathetic than he already was. You failed me and my daughter, Guttenberg added. Those people who lost their lives, including my daughter, are victims of his inability to do his job; victims of his failure.

“One does not reflect on a point of honor - that is already dishonor. To submit to insult, to forget a humiliation, to quail before an enemy - all these are signs of a life become worthless...” Oswald Spengler
In the military, he would have been sent to Leavenworth for cowardice or hung. Either would have worked for me.
An honorable man would have sucked a pistol by now.
We know... you had ONE job...
I have heard the Hogg was not even there- he was home when he heard the news and rode his bicycle there
One of the worst curses to bear is the label of cowardice.
His initial story was he was hiding in a closet in another building while texting his friends in the building where the murders were taking place. A couple weeks later, during a CBS interview, he stated he was at home and had to ride his bike three miles to the school to stick his nose into the mess.
I think the truth is from his CBS interview and it accidentally slipped out. That whole interview was buried real fast.
I was 19 and underground in an ICBM silo when something similar happened. My other crew partner and I had to not only divert from the printed tech data to fight the fire but we also violated orders about such emergencies. If we had not done so a very large missile with a nine megaton warhead may have burned and exploded. We saved the entire complex and were given commendations.
Had several other extremely dangerous things happen as well, including the immediate threat of WWIII. In every instance we did our duty.

Deputies were told to set up perimeter around Parkland shooting... - Miami Herald - March 01, 2018 09:49 PM
"Capt. Jan Jordan, commander of BSOs Parkland district, gave the order..."
"The Broward Sheriffs Office captain who initially took charge of the chaotic scene at a Parkland high school where 17 people were killed told deputies to form a perimeter around the deadly scene which they did instead of going in to confront the shooter, according to a partial BSO dispatch log obtained by the Miami Herald..."
How did the "just following orders" excuse work out for Nazi prison guards?. Following an immoral or illegal order is NEVER a valid reason for failure to act.
I wonder if his $8600/month pension helps him sleep better at night?
There won’t be much of that pension left after it is garnished for lawsuits.
We can only hope.
And yet there are leftist Democrats who still want NO armed guards near their schools. They’d rather take chances that their kids will be mass-murdered.
And whats the lesson?
You must protect yourself. The state has no obligation to protect you and if it serves their ends or conforms to their procedures, they will allow your children to be murdered.
All lawsuits will fail. SCOTUS has already ruled on this. The police are not required to protect you.
His gay buddy was wearing an 0bama mask and "giving it to" "Twigs" Hogg, who enjoys being a "bottom"...
The story behind Nikolas Cruz and the shooting of 33 former classmates and staff is one of the repeated failures of the system from the FBI to the school to the sheriffs office to social services. The massacre was very foreseeable but politics got in the way. Specifically, politics, funding of more than $53 million, and Chicago school discipline got in the way.
This Was Obama-Chicago Discipline----The Superintendent of Broward County Schools, Robert Runcie, came out of Chicago and the Duncan-Obama administration.
The Miami-Herald reported: In 2003, Arne Duncan, then head of the Chicago school district and later Secretary of Education under Barack Obama asked Runcie to oversee the districts technology department. Runcie went on to serve in other administrative roles, including as chief of staff for the Board of Education, before becoming the Broward schools superintendent in 2011.
In 2016, he made $335,000 a year in a region that has poor mental health services due to lack of funds. He was well-paid to bring down the numbers and alter the so-called school-to-prison pipeline. It was supposed to happen as a result of the Promise program.
The Promise---- The school board instituted a program called Promise which made not reporting criminal behavior a standard policy. Police said they did not have discretion in arrests, according to the President of the Sheriffs union. The Promise [Preventing Recidivism through Opportunities, Mentoring, Interventions, Support, and Education] program kept Nikolas Cruz from getting arrested. Not having a record allowed him to buy guns.
The program began in 2012 as a way of dealing with the district recording the highest number of school-related arrests statewide (over 1,000). Superintendent Runcie, with strong connections to Obama, was expected to stop the alleged school-to-prison pipeline.
The program was geared towards keeping minorities out of prison. The killers name was Cruz, making him a minority. An agreement was drawn up with police and community organizations like the NAACP which kept kids out of jail based on race but didnt necessarily deal with the issues they had.
Principals, instead of school resource officers [sheriffs], became the primary decision makers in responding to student misbehavior. Misdemeanors were supposed to be overlooked but records suggest more serious crimes were ignored to keep the money flowing. The district had to continually show improvement in statistics. There is no question the serious threats by Cruz to shoot up the school were reported to the sheriffs office and he ignored them. Nothing was reported and nothing was ever done. This was the school/police policy.
$53 Million in Grants---With a cooperative judge and the Superintendents tight connections to the Obama administration, arrests were down 66% within one year of Runcies arrival. Grant money started flowing into the school district. The school district initially received over $53 million in grants to facilitate improved life for students in poverty/students of color.
The Last Refuge has been investigating this for years and uncovered documentation making a very convincing case for the entire program being corrupted by funds and statistics. The extent of killer Nikolas Cruzs disciplinary problems was summarized by the Sun-Sentinel and the Miami-Herald. In addition to a slew of disabilities, Cruz had been out of control for years. As a New York educator for more than 30 years, I can tell you that long before Cruz blew completely, he would have been in a residential school. One of the programs participants, Juvenile Court judge Elijah Williams, speaking at a 2013 signing ceremony for PROMISE, focused on the statistics. We are waiting for our numbers to come in, he told the audience.
Elijah Williams said, We already bought the ticket. We are waiting for our numbers to come in. We know we have hit the jackpot when our school-related arrests go down, down down.
Promise of Detroit----- A caller into Rush Limbaugh Monday discussed the Promise program in the Detroit City schools. As an educator, I believe him.

Supt Runcie named Superintendent of The Year.
Broward Superintendent Robert Runcie will get a $28,000 raise and additional benefits under a contract approved by the School Board on Tuesday. The deal brings Runcies salary to $335,000 and extends his employment through June 30, 2023.
Under the new contract, Runcie would:
-- Be able to trade in 15 of his 29 vacation days for a cash value of $20,500.
-- Get $48,000 contributed annually from the school board for retirement plans
-- Be allowed to earn a pension based on four years of his service in Chicago, estimated to cost to the district another $80,000.
More than 30 people lined up Tuesday, mostly to praise Runcies work since he started in 2011. Leaders of local community organizations, businesses and schools praised improved student achievement, Runcies communication skills and inclusion and protection of immigrants and minorities. Even the Broward Teachers Union, historically at odds with Runcie, backed the deal while pleading with the board to provide better compensation to other employees in the district. Possibly a year ago I would stand here and disagree. Standing here now, I dont disagree, said Anna Fusco, union president. Mr Runcie has made great strides in helping out our Broward County Public Schools. I think his leadership has really bloomed since since he started here seven years ago.
She denied deployment of two Rescue Task Force teams that had arrived.
Three paramedics and 3-4 officers had rushed to the scene to help--------but Jordan denied them entry.
