Arizona Sen. John McCain - scion of Navy brass, flyboy turned Vietnam war hero and tireless defender of American global leadership - now faces terminal brain cancer.
I am a scholar of American politics. And I believe that, regardless of his storied biography and personal charm, three powerful trends in American politics thwarted McCain's lifelong ambition to be president. They were the rise of the Christian right, partisan polarization and declining public support for foreign wars.
Republican McCain was a champion of bipartisan legislating, an approach that served him and the Senate well. But as political divides have grown, bipartisanship has fallen out of favor.
Most recently, McCain opposed Gina Haspel as CIA director for "her refusal to acknowledge torture's immorality" and her role in it.
Having survived brutal torture for five years as a prisoner of war, McCain maintained a resolute voice against U.S. policies permitting so-called "enhanced interrogations." Nevertheless, his appeals failed to rally sufficient support to slow, much less derail, her appointment.

Damn, I am trying to eat!
Drop dead, Johnny.
Which values ? The values he campaigned on or the values in opposition to those ?
Nobody likes a turncoat or a songbird.
Hence the fall of McCain. History wont be kind to him.
"Assumes facts not in evidence, Your Honor."
He opposed Obamacare and Romneycare and socialized medicine for many years. And yet he voted against repealing it. His constituents were/are against Obamacare. He no longer reflects the values of his constituents. His state voted for Trump. I’m pretty sure he predicted Arizona would vote for Hillary, but he was wrong. He opposes the folks of his state.
Thank God he was not elected POTUS.
His job was to legitimize the Left and he succeeded.
Can we stop with these democratic mouth pieces.
In 2008 McCain was literally Hitler in their minds, now he is loved since he hates Trump
"Professor Sherman brings over two decades of teaching, research and administrative experience to her classes in American Politics. As founding director of the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Boston, Dr. Sherman established the focal point for graduate education, research and public engagement on issues concerning women in public life. A former Research Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, Dr. Sherman completed research on economic challenges facing women in the workplace, and the potential for statewide policies on family leave and comparable worth. Dr. Sherman hosted her own award-winning public radio program, Commonwealth Journal, and has spoken and written widely on women in politics."
Personal charm? I voted for the guy and have some satisfaction with his actions as a Senator but he is not known for that!
I have NEVER shared his particular values.
And you liberals were calling him a “Nazi” when he ran against your boy, Obama.
The terminal AZ cancers McCain and Flake will soon be gone.
Good riddance to bad trash.
That's the problem.
Mindless drool from some a$$-kissing globalist.
Actually, Lizzie; I'd say you are a Left-Wing partisan hack, and quite possibly a nitwit.
But thanks for playing.
