Park ravaged by drugs, hookers and muggings after infamous police killing (Eric Garner)

Gangbangers peddle drugs in plain sight, hustlers resell cheap booze on the street corner — 50 cents will get you a capful — and prostitutes lead johns to the boarded-up husk of what used to be a Taco Bell.

This is Tompkinsville Park on Staten Island’s North Shore in 2018 and, to area residents and merchants caught in its heroin- and K2-infested vortex, this is a battlefield.

“Every day you see muggings, prostitutes, people smoking crack and shooting up heroin,” said Xhafer Gjeshbitraj, 52, who owns a building across the street from the tiny, triangular park bounded by Bay Street and Victory Boulevard.

“It’s a war zone, in the truest sense of the word.”

In the nearly four years since Eric Garner was killed in a struggle with an NYPD officer across the street from the park, locals claim the area has gone to the wolves, with cops hesitant to lay down the law at the risk of igniting another firestorm.

“Guys are not going to risk their jobs anymore,” said one high-ranking law enforcement source familiar with the precinct. “We’ll just let you have that area.”

~snip~

The spotlight has faded, but law enforcement sources say cops are still unwilling to take charge of the park and risk rekindling tensions.

“I wouldn’t do any work over there,” said one police source. “You’d have to be crazy.”

The precinct’s ranks recently received an influx of 25 extra cops as part of the NYPD’s Summer All Out program, but the source said one of the additions he spoke with wasn’t exactly thrilled with the assignment.

“He said he had to go to the precinct where Eric Garner was killed,” the source relayed. “He said, ‘I don’t want to deal with that s–t.’ ”

Eric Garner's neighborhood erupted in blind rage and violence after cops arrested him. Even though his death was entirely and completely on him. Not the cops.

Anyway - those people got what they wanted - the cops are gone.

And this. This is the aftermath.

Also please note the Fake News Headline.

“infamous police killing”? As we all know - Garner was not placed in a chokehold. His death was due to his own fat stupidity.

Guys are not going to risk their jobs anymore.

What they need are more liberal politicians. Ones who will stoke the racial flames of hatred for political gain. That will help.

Why aren't the always virtue signaling SJWs signing up to be cops and helping their downtrodden brethren? You know, protecting them from the man. Demonstrating their super awesome virtuousness!

If the cops leave these people alone, no crime stats, low crime rate for the area, the Mayor is happy.

They just thought they had it bad. Now they see what life without the police is like.

the cops probably should have left EG alone, and fight the really serious crime, but its not the cops fault that this guy had medical issues...IIRC, they did a choke hold, but he got up and into the ambulance on his own, and then had a heart attack....correct me if I am wrong...

You are wrong.

It was a submission hold. Big difference between that and a choke hold.

I could take many paragraphs to explain, but that’s up to you if you want to be more informed - do your research.

Basically Garner’s airway and throat passages were NOT crushed or damaged. As per the autopsy. He was not killed by the cops.

I bet you couldn’t find a single democrat who would admit this is a disaster. And the lowlifes in the neighborhood still trash talk police.

There are thousands and thousands of organisms in this country that should just be run through a wood chipper and be done with it.

As a first-responder but non-EMT I always feel sorry for the EMTs... Those guys and gals always have to step in. I salute them!

I’m pretty sure the building owner quoted in this story is the same guy who made the 311 call that precipitated the police fighting with Garner.

After all that I’m surprised he’s still in the neighborhood.

In the nearly four years since Eric Garner was killed in a struggle with an NYPD officer across the street from the park, ... .
**************
Like too many blacks, Garner felt that he was entitled to resist a lawful arrest. Unbeknownst to the officer, Garner had a pre-existing condition that made his resisting arrest dangerous to him. The officer released his grip after Garner stated that he was having trouble breathing, and he rested on the ground until the ambulance came. He subsequently died in the ambulance, which did not arrive all that quickly.

The citizens voted for people that made a law against selling "loosies" - can't have people making profit from ciggerettes, can we?
