Full title: School Security Guard Who Didn’t Stop the Parkland Shooter Was Suspended for Sexually Harassing Students

A disciplinary panel recommended Andrew Medina be fired. He was not.

Lest you thought we were finished with tales of unfathomable incompetence on the part of Broward County, Florida, authority figures, consider this: The first Marjory Stoneman Douglas security guard who spotted Nikolas Cruz on campus and took no action to detain him was previously suspended for sexually harassing students.

Due to his inaction during the shooting, Andrew Medina was initially reassigned to an administrative position elsewhere in the Broward County school system. But on Tuesday, the superintendent finally decided to terminate his employment.

Medina worked as an unarmed security guard at Stoneman Douglas. In 2017, a disciplinary panel recommended that he be fired for sexually harassing two female students. (One of those students, Meadow Pollack, was later killed in the shooting.) But school officials decided to suspend Medina for three days instead, according to CBS News.

My understanding was that he was an armed security guard at the time of the shooting. The article states he was an unarmed security guard. I’m not sure the article is correct.

Wow. What a disgusting Slobovian. He was...

A. Retarded

B. Wanting all of the young people there to hate him.

C. Wanting to find a young woman crazy enough to want to get with him, so he would end up in the hoosegow or some other kind of serious trouble (baby-daddy, meet in-laws...or outlaws).

D. All of the above.

One wonders if part of the reason he did not “go in” to confront the shooter is that he knew such an action would draw much attention to him, eventually exposing his past...

Or he could just be a messed up creep.

It’s all kinda the same thing.

There is almost zero accountability in any public service role. The buck never stops. There is nobody in charge. It is a “board” or “committee” so nobody is ever responsible for anything. This is one reason why we need to privatize most services.

There is a story in the news feed right now about Florida Toll Road system being offline. That is run by a private company contracted by the state. The people know who to blame - the President of that company. And the contract calls for $5000 per day in penalties for every day the system is offline.

It doesn’t take much to see the contrast in approaches. Sure, mistakes happen. But accountability and culpability make for incentives to fix the mistakes. No private employer would keep a guy who sexually harassed 2 teenage girls on the job.

The one problem with this we don’t know what the supposedly
Sexually Harassment was.

Every body wants blood without knowing the facts.

"Every body wants blood without knowing the facts."

OK, let's work backwards here:

1. High school students - unarmed and thanks in part to this guy - were not protected and then they were murdered.

2. The dirtbag in question already showed warning signs by doing something that showed contact or interest in some of those same innocent high school students.

3. All persons working at any school are guardians of those same kids in the place of their parents while they are in that school. Any warnings, any suspicions of those persons who may not be responsible in the very serious responsibility of protecting kids must be acted upon, immediately.

Any other response must mean that you aren't a parent.

Last week we learned that a middle school teacher in Broward was caught with child pornography. You could likely do a two or even three part special series of "Investigative Reports" (the old Bill Curtis show on A&E) on this man and the corrupt and criminal behaviour in that school district under his watch. What led to February's tragedy is likely just the beginning of what could be investigated and revealed in such a series.

Sounds like the resource officer at my old high school. All he ever did in the four years I was there was sit in the gym all day and ogle the girls gym classes. It fact it became a running joke even among the teachers, if someone would ask where he was, they would roll their eyes and say, “You know where you can find him.”

......just when you thought the monumental incompetence and rank stupidity in Broward County was all revealed....from the imbecilic She riff, their elected nincompoops like D/W/S, to the do-nothing million dollar Supt of Schools.....we find there are predator criminals in the schools: The first Marjory Stoneman Douglas security guard who spotted shooter Nikolas Cruz on campus, and took no action, was previously suspended for sexually harassing students.....

Not to worry, the sexual predator still has his job.

This a different dirt bag.

Scott Peterson was the armed Broward County Deputy who was at the scene, heard the shots fired, but failed to enter the building.

Andrew Medina was an unarmed security monitor in the area who saw the perp enter the school but failed to respond.
