I'll take, "because there's no need to dump if there's no food to eat," for a hundred, Alex.
Excellent rebuttal.
LOL - don't hold back - tell us how you really feel...
Denmark, Norway, and I would add Sweden... all relatively small (populations of less than 10 million), homogeneous (at least until their recent opening of doors to refugees), where there was a cultural ethic to abide by the system and not abuse it. Here we have a polyglot population of almost 350 million over a vast highly differentiated geography. It will not work here.

I think that's right.
Venezuela shares the first two traits but I'm not so sure about the third.
FWIW, I believe the fact that they are all Protestant countries helped them develop into successful states - and like the US, that factor plays a significant role in their downfall (specifically, the negative birthrate/end of families).
Socialist countries don’t need Toilet paper
Because socialist countries also don’t have food
And if you don’t have food you don’t eat
And if you don’t eat, you don’t poop
And if you don’t poop, you don’t need toilet paper
The largest proven oil reserves in the world and a year round growing season and after a couple decades of socialism they can’t even feed themselves any more. And this was after a huge oil price spike. Despite the surging oil price, their oil production steadily declined. Amazing.
Norway has about 4 million people and is one of the largest oil exporters in the world. Nice gig if you can get it.
As for Denmark and Sweden, they have moved away from Socialism for one thing.....check out their corporate tax rates. They have long been WAY lower than ours. For another, if you look at the period when Sweden grew rapidly, it was before they imposed all the socialist policies. Their economic growth slowed way down after they did that. That’s why they rolled back some of the socialism. No country has ever gotten wealthy through socialism. They only places where it has not been as bad were places that had already become wealthy - via free market economies. Even then, their growth rates came way down once they imposed more and more socialism.
I don't think socialism is defined by corporate tax rates.
What social services have they cut back?
Cutting taxes on corporations is certainly anathema to Democratic Socialists or even regular ole Democrats.
As is school choice. As is the lack of minimum wages. There is less time and red tape to register a company in Denmark than in just about any US state. In fact the regulatory burden is generally lighter in Denmark than the US. It ranks #4 in ease of doing business in the world bank’s ranking of 189 countries. The US ranks #7. Want “free” university education Leftists in the US tout just like Denmark? OK...to get that “free” education you have to study certain subjects. You the student do not get to choose. Hint: you can forget about getting a “free” education to study liberal arts. Pretty sure gender studies wouldn’t make the list either. You will study subjects that serve the needs of businesses in the country or you can pay for your education yourself.
Somehow I’m thinking this is not at all what the Leftists who tout the Scandinavian model in the US have in mind.
Timely-Topic BUMP
All the gold in Venezuela’s
in a bank in the middle of Istanbul
in Maduro’s numbered name.
So if you’re thinking ‘bout Venezuela,
it don’t matter how much money you have,
toilet paper’s the name of the game.
