Newt Gingrich: Trump's Putin press conference 'most serious mistake of his presidency'
Washington Examiner ^ | July 16, 2018 | Naomi Lim

Posted on 07/16/2018 3:23:29 PM PDT by FewsOrange

Newt Gingrich on Monday offered rare, scalding criticism of President Trump, demanding that the president explain the comments he made during his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the conclusion of their talks in Helsinki.

"President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin," the former House speaker wrote on Twitter. "It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately."

Trump received widespread scorn on Monday after he said at the media availability that he has yet to see any compelling reason why the Kremlin would have interfered in the 2016 election.

His comments follow special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment in federal court on Friday, which alleged 12 Russian military officials hacked Democratic email servers during the campaign.

Gingrich has been a vocal supporter of Trump, but he has on occasion provided constructive critiques of his performance.

Gingrich chastised Trump in April, claiming his administration had botched the release of Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein's memo outlining problems with fired FBI Director James Comey.

Wait a minute ... ‘our’ intel in the name of the libtards and their willing accomplices in the GOPe claim Russia interfered with election 2016. The uniparty in congress is handing over dollars by the millions, on an investigation that Russia did interfere with election 2016...

But Obama declared in October 2016 : “There is no serious person out there who would suggest that you could even rig America's elections... There is no evidence that that has happened in the past, or that there are instances that that could happen this time... So I'd advise Mr. Trump to stop whining.

Which is it? What is the evidence the Russians interfered with election 2016...?

That’s fair. My greatest disappointment with Newt was in 2012, when I still had hopes he would knock out Romney. He came to our city and I got to meet him briefly, just one of the crowd, nothing special. I could see in his eyes - with utter clarity - he had no intention of winning. It was all theater.

(Sean Hannity) is very forgiving of his friends

And that is not necessarily a bad thing. Unfortunately, he let Paul Ryan off the hook so many times that when he finally did get on the guy's butt, it didn't matter anymore.

I did catch a bit of him on the way home tonight, and he did sound PO'd at the GOP past the point of no return. It took me a while too, but come on...

This is my reply

We’ve all been witnessing “our intelligence system” at work trying to oust our duly elected president for 2 years now, haven’t we? Our intel people need to prove themselves worthy of trust at this point.

I believe it had Clinton 2 points ahead of Trump in the popular vote at the end. Sounds pretty accurate. Am I wrong here?

We like polls when they show us doing well.

No matter what, Trump is going to get excoriated by the media

Especially with any thing Russian

I have not had the impression that Trumps trip has been a media disaster

I also feel it is critical to engage Russians to align as best possible on the Middle East, North Korea security issues and European and world wide energy policy.

We need to ramp up our oil production without getting into a price war and also to avoid destabilizing the energy export dependent economies Russia and the Middle East with an energy glut while at the same time not shutting down the economic boom Trump has ignited

We also need to align as much possible with Russian on Trade sanctions issues

I also suspect that the same Transnational interests that are trying to destroy Trump have similar plans for Putin and Russia which may make Russia an unlikely but highly motivated ally on many issues

At the end of the day, Trump has the most complete information and the rest of us are acting on very partial information

My personal opinion is That Trump is getting very close in the end game in exposing a lot of serious bipartisan corruption in Washington and the reality of this is hitting the guilty parties with a serious realization that Trump is serious

It also seems that Trump has a strategy of forcing his opponents hands to play their hole cards prematurely as a defensive measure rather than timing their attacks offensively

The over the top media response seems to validate that dynamic

All he had to say is that he has great confidence in our intel...

I'd start losing my confidence in Trump if he starts lying to us.

“Newt Gingrich: Trump's Putin press conference ‘most serious mistake of his presidency’ “

Newt should go sit on the couch with - who was it, Pelosi?

Few talking heads said bug-spit when Obama and Clinton were caught cozying up to the communists in Russia. Now they all want to go full-Reagan and start bombing in five minutes.

Fulsome and foolish fake outrage.

Considering the illegal voters fraud, Yup.

Fair. I haven’t seen the evidence. And people forget Obama denied anyone got Clinton’s personal emails, and did nothing about “hacking” until after Trump won.

I don’t know if he ‘sold out to Hillary’, but think he’s a guy in love with his own intellect, and all about himself.

“Newt went to ground right after his contract with America. I was always wondering why he went silent right after that. It turns out he was involved in marital infidelities that had been successfully hushed up. I’m certain the Clinton’s blackmailed him.”

Remember Filegate? One of the early incidents of Weasels.gov showing their little furry paws.

You appear to like impugning our credibility.

Now who does that sound like?
