We are being invaded on the southern border, will Montenegro come help us?

Are you kidding? The Ukrainians like being Russian? The ones I have talked to (on Ukrainian soil no less) emphatically do not like Russia.

Wouldn’t identifying the mountain as “black” be racist? Let alone using the Spanish derivation of “negro” for black?

I say we invade it with so many troops that it tips over and is washed away.

“The President is absolutely correct in posing the question whether we should shed American blood, riches and risk the destruction of our Country over Montenegro.”

The fact that the question is being asked means the alliance isn’t worth a damn. The whole point of the alliance is to assure the enemy that if they cross this line, they will inevitably suffer the consequences. Once you start debating whether you are willing to inflict the consequences, no enemy will take you seriously.

A lot of nice rhetoric, but when it comes down to it, will you sacrifice YOUR children, YOURSELF or take a NUKE because someone "crossed the line" and invaded Montenegro, a country few can find or identify? As long as NATO was the major countries of Western Europe where America had vital interests, it made sense and deterrent was necessary. Now that every little principality wants to scurry and join NATO so America can defend them, while increasing the chances of being drawn into a war.

A LOT has changed since the 1940s when NATO was formed. Taking time to reflect and take stock to decide if it is really STILL in OUR best interests is prudent.

We should kick Turkey out.

Kick everyone out, save the money and worry about our own defense... let the Euro-trash take care of itself.

Bye!

If we don’t want to defend them, don’t let them into NATO. If we are going to let them in, then yeah, we have to defend them, otherwise the alliance is pointless.

Shortly after regaining its independence in June 2006, Montenegro joined the Partnership for Peace (PfP) in December 2006.

The country was invited to join the Membership Action Plan in December 2009.

Montenegro was invited to start accession talks to join the Alliance in December 2015 and the Accession Protocol was signed by Allied foreign ministers on 19 May 2016.

The Accession Protocol then had to be ratified by all parliaments in NATO member states.

Montenegro became a full member of the Alliance, when the instrument of accession was deposited in Washington D.C. on 5 June 2017.

It appears that by the time President Trump took office, the 0bama regime had already done their dirty work, though congress could've stopped it. My guess is that several members of the congressional "leadership" were royally wined and dined and approval was merely a formality.

Montenegro is part of American culture. It’s the birthplace of Nero Wolfe!

Lol, was discussing that recently. Some of the books say he was born in USA to Montenegrin parents. There are other differences in the pre-story too.

NATO used to be half the number of countries it is now and each time it grows, it becomes both riskier in terms of treaty obligations, and watered down in terms of shared defense costs.
