Yes, I love cats and dogs too!
Ours were born feral and have a good life in the barnyard. They panic indoors and a voice on a radio will send them in orbit. Forget TV! It took a long time to gain their trust and even that is probably fragile. They won’t be locked up and i fear for them as we have coyotes about. These little cats work together and can even tunnel out through inch and a half gravel fill!
Your mention of radio and TV reminded me of something.
I got a little kitten once, through an ad in the local newspaper, and raised it.
When the cat was about two years old, I had an opportunity to go on vacation to the Outer Banks, and I asked my brother to take care of Cat at his house for a week.
The first night I was gone, I called and left a message on Brother’s answering machine, asking how Cat was doing.
Apparently, Cat heard that; and my brother told me that the cat spent the entire week sitting next to the ‘phone, on top of the answering machine.
They - and probably many other animals - have cognitive abilities that we just don’t understand yet.
My cat's unanimously agree that Rosie is a sell-out!
What a Crew.
ahahahahahaha
That story was too cute. I’ll be sharing it with my wife.
interesting, they understand a lot. One of ours actually tracks me by scent. My wife said he smelled my work clothes in the mud room and would not leave while looking for me.
Cats are under studied. They communicate with each other but how? They certainly have a pecking order. Our littlest one is on the bottom of the pride and I feel so sad for her. She is afraid to be loved because of jealousy by the others. She is a mighty lone huntress though and is the first one up, out and making her rounds. She is also first on the work bench at feeding time and eats like a bird but I make sure she gets all she wants.
She may pretend to be part of the pack, but you can be sure if they ever hit the trail she’ll expect to ride warmly wrapped in a blanket on the sled. After all, somebody has to be in charge.
You Bet!
Rosie appears to be a female, and they definitely rule the pride - and probably transfer that to ruling the Pack ;-)
They communicate by body language - ears up, ears laid back; tail up, tail down. Slinky movement, or walking boldly; sounds registering in the ears that you and I can’t hear.
Also, smell. (”Why is my brother so excited? I must smell his butt and figure this out!”)
A few nights ago, one of my cats spent an entire hour sniffing and approaching with great trepidation a basket that I had placed on the sofa. I couldn’t understand what he was concerned about, and wondered if a bad bug had somehow gotten into the house. (Our cats love chasing bugs.)
I never figured it out; but the next day when my husband and I came home from work, the house was buzzing with flies. Something had gotten in here, apparently laid eggs, and we had to kill all of these flies.
Cats did good - they were thrilled by the chase, and killed several of them. Husband killed the rest with the swatter.
The cat somehow knew about these bugs long before it registered to us Humans.
They don’t have to worry about taxes, mortgages, politics, the grief a coworker is giving them; and that frees up their senses for the immediate things - like great bug prey.
We humans were like that, once; before we became so sophisticated :-)
:-)
I think they are descendants of space aliens that crashed on Earth millennia ago and became stranded here. All their advanced technology was lost with their ship. They have adapted to survive as best they can but have devolved yet still have powers of telepathic communication some may be unaware of but can learn from enlightened members of their species. To communicate with we mere humans they have learned the art of charming us works well with all but the lowliest of our life form who are to be avoided at the price of death.
Good night.
Well, that’s....interesting.
But I think they are just another amazing product of this amazing Earth ;-)
The sequel to it: "The Golden Cat" is OK, but not as good as the first one.
I am very very tolerant of this adorable transhusky!
Kitty Ping!
My question also!
That sounds like a great book.
