Authorities have identified four cyclists who were killed while riding in Tajikistan in an attack that has been claimed by the IS terror group.
The victims had all kept online blogs documenting their intercontinental bike journeys.
A couple from Washington DC who quit their jobs to cycle and had already toured three continents were among those killed in Sunday's attack.
The other two were a Swiss citizen and a Dutch national.
American couple Lauren Geoghegan and Jay Austin, both 29, had been travelling for over a year.
In April, Mr Austin wrote during a bike tour of Morocco: "Badness exists, sure, but even that's quite rare.
"By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind.
"Generous and wonderful and kind. No greater revelation has come from our journey than this."
The pair had cycled through Africa and Europe before flying to Kazakhstan in May.

If the country ends in “stan,” avoid it.

The world is full of happy, smiling people who will treat you with utter ruthlessness if they ever get into a position of power over you.
I would agree that in general, people go for live and let live and have benign sentiments toward their fellow man. But it only takes one mean fellow to kill you and in societies where the rule of law is broken down and order is not enforced, those mean ones run the show.
The threads that hold society together are getting thinner with each passing day.

During the Vietnam war hippies would travel to adjacent countries and then hike into North Vietnam to show solidarity with the downtrodden communists. The Vietnamese knew these were just deluded idiots. But, they accused them each of being spies and executed them. I can picture the stunned hippies saying, “But you don’t understand! I’m with you!”
Those people who travel to North Korea or Iran probably are the same type of idiot. Hiking along a border with a crazy state? How dumb, or, ideological do you have to be? Especially when you already know what has happened to other Americans wo did the same thing.
If only they'd done that with Jane Fonda.
Most humans are good. However, situational awareness can be critical to survival. Bicycling in some sh*thole country is not a good demonstration of situational awareness.
