I skimmed through parts of this article but it seems like they are implying that he knew someone’s quads were going to blow out before it happened. It sounds like a freak accident to me. I’ve heard of tendons popping before, but I had no idea until just now that you muscles could ‘erupt’ from lactic acid build up.
