He was also offered a slot by the Ravens for less as a backup, and he turned it down ... AFTER the antics.
One could argue that this is a shrewd, also selfish and arrogant move on his part because he's now a very old man who never was all that in the first place, football-wise.
Besides... see tagline.
I personally think the NFL is in total denial of the walk away that will occur this season by millions who just dont care anymore. Their placating these anti American thugs and steroid freaks has turn us away. We are not there anymore. It is so bad a Cleveland they are giving away free beer to alcoholics to get them to even care.
From the 'wayback' machine:
The Baltimore Colts opened the National Football League draft yesterday by selecting Stanford's all-America quarterback, John Elway. But hours later his father, Jack, said that Elway ''will never play for Irsay or Coach Kush.'' And, at a news conference in San Jose, Calif., his hometown, John Elway said: ''Right now it looks like I'll be playing baseball with the Yankees. It will be a couple of days, or maybe even two weeks, before I make the final decision. We haven't ruled out football, but it doesn't look good right now.''
He was never starting QB material to begin with. Now off the field, missing practice, no gains in stats. It would be a mistake for him to try an come back. It would only prove he’s just not NFL level. And any team that took him would bear the brunt of fan animosity.
Not surprising news - it was well reported in the Bay Area that Kaepernick visited Elway’s home and had an opportunity to sign with the Broncos. The guy obviously does not care about his mediocre football career anymore - he’s a willing tool for leftist activists who are busy destroying the NFL the same way they’ve destroyed every other institution they touch. I used to really enjoy the NFL before they decided to inject politics into it.
And the Seahawks, I believe, as well. All this, of course, after he turned down the option year of his contract with the 49ers.
This POS is no victim; he just has grossly inflated view of his own worth.
“Kaepernick (and/or his agent) felt that he could land a better deal than the seven million per year that the Broncos were offering him”
blind greed did him in. he deserves to swirl down the toilet of pro athlete history. Wasn’t even worth 7mil, but was offered it and turned it down thinking he’s so great better offers would come. LOL
I dont have an NFL contract.
Do you?
Nobody is owed an NFL contract. If a team thinks he will be good for the organization, they will make him an offer. But good for the team includes a calculus on the controversy and locker room poison that is surely part of the package.
I count myself lucky that I was in the stands to see Elway lose his last college game. The Big Game against Cal at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley that ended with The Play.
During the previous possession, Elway passed on a 4th and 17, and then went on to score a touchdown. Everybody in the place thought that John Elway had done it to us again, but it did not turn out that way.
I wish I could say I followed what happened next, but it was complete mayhem. Nobody knew what happened until they fired the cannon on Cheapskate Hill, and we all looked at the scoreboard.
Turns down $7MM PER SEASON to throw a football and now is whining that no one will hire him. I am so sick of these entitled a-holes. Sorry Kap, no respect for you. None.
The Broncos could have had Tim Tebow as a back-up quarterback but team management was hoping to sign Kaepernick because of his wholesome image.
You were AT ‘The Game’ !!! Man, I tell that to my kids, and watch it on YouTube. I grew up in the DC area. Baltimore still HATES Elway ... LOL !!!
feh
Exactly. Athletes have a limited shelf-life, either in the game or on the sidelines. He’ll be worthless soon enough, if he isn’t already.
I guess his collision story just when down the shitter.
