Why doesn’t the Pope release Priests from their vows of celibacy recognizing that sex is part of man’s fundamental being as God created him. You would attract a whole new segment of society to become Priests.

The major sex abuse scandals first hit hard in the early 2000’s. At that time our diocese cleaned house at our parish. Our lead priest/monsignor was prosecuted, defrocked and eventually excommunicated from the Catholic church. Before the scandals broke our parish was the largest in the diocese, membership was at least 8,000.
Our priest was a homosexual pedophile with at least two dozen male victims who came forward. Our parish was at first in deep denial, then wracked with pain and despair as we realized the accusations were true.
To this day this proven pedophile ex-priest sees himself as a victim. He keeps claiming he is innocent, says he’s only guilty of “bad judgement.” He actually had the nerve to start his own church less than half a mile from our parish. He is an absolute disgrace.

Gee umm I remember fifty-something years of some priest whacking one out during Friday confession and my granny pulled him out doing the number. We never returned and the priest was never fired. Funny when I think about that old perv scratching the wood while I was trying to think up some sin worthy of a hail Mary but horrors wondering about other kids not so lucky. Never was an altar boy for some odd reason
Try telling that to "conservative Catholics," though. They are literally convinced that the literal historical interpretation of Genesis was created whole cloth by American "hicks" in the nineteenth century!

But..who is the pope to judge?
So he and the rest of prelates are just coming out of their coma. For decades & decades this has gone on and even the laity had their heads in the sand. Yeah, “pray, pay & obey”, and keep your mouths shut. This is so sad that a once beautiful Church has gone down the tubes. Perhaps this is all coming true:
Satan went after the Church just as Pope Leo XIII foresaw in an October 13, 1884, vision and as the Blessed Mother warned at LaSalette, where, reputedly, she told Melanie Calvat, that “priests, ministers of my Son, the priests, by their wicked lives, by their irreverence and their impiety in the celebration of the holy mysteries, by their love of money, their love of honors and pleasures, have become cesspools of impurity.” Their intelligence, it said, would be “bedimmed.” Convents would become “the grazing grounds of Asmodeas and his like.” (Asmodeas is major demon of lust; re:Tobit3:17).
The powers that ‘be’ in the Church of Rome, attempted for decades to minimize this evil, by claiming these priest are ‘only’ homosexuals because of the claimed age of their ‘victims’. They have written reams of words, to ignore that these devils, school young boys to become their ‘homosexual’ treats. There is so much rot, top to bottom of this Church of Rome it will take a cleansing by Christ Himself.
It is so twisted to present these ‘fathers’ as being equal in sin as their victims, calling it ‘homosexual’ acts.

If the Catholic Church survives, it will need to drastically change the ordination process for clergy. If I had any say, anyone who wants to be a priest would have to agree to a 10 year probationary period in which they agreed to having their personal lives extensively monitored. If, after 10 years, they had a spotless record then they could become full fledged priests. To be given such a sacred trust you should have to earn it. Of course, those doing the monitoring would themselves have to be trustworthy, preferably laymen.
Is all this stuff coming out now SINCE 2002? Or new stuff from the bad old days. I have to think it’s still going on.
Cardinal Burke was one of the first Orthodox cardinals to be fired by Bergoglio. His old office is now in the hands of a liberal.
