U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio says that China is currently in the process of “destroying our alliances” throughout the Pacific Rim using various strategies including cost.

“They are on the verge of achieving their goal of destroying our alliances in the Indo-Pacific by making keeping our defense commitments too costly to keep,” the Florida Republican tweeted on Wednesday...

Remind me how many years that Little Marco spent in the military? CIA? State Department? DIA?

Rubio is late to the party. He is trying to replace his friend John McCain as a hawkish voice in the Senate.

Obama and his defense team ceded to China that turf long ago.

Trade is where the war was lost long ago....the military part is simply the end result.

Rubio had to say something stupid to get his name in the news. Our alliances are fine in the sense that no one there wants to become the next Chinese province, and most are doing their best to secure Uncle Sam’s help in case China decides to replicate Japan’s grand tour in the 30’s and 40’s. The real problem is that few of these countries are ramping up defense spending sufficiently to ward off China while the cavalry is getting ready to come to the rescue. American expeditionary forces take time to assemble, given the width of the Pacific, whereas the Chinese threat is right next door.

I’m in belief in an extra strong military. Second to none...but when Rubio speaks I just yawn

I think we need to listen to Rubio and watch China carefully
They will never be our “friends”
Russia is closer to our cultural mindset than China ever will be
And it’s going to come down to a tripatite world power balancing act
US - Russia - China
with Europe caught between US and Russia
We are such fools to keep driving Russia toward China

Just saying.

If someone has been in the military for their entire life (as you have) but seems aok with China taking ever more of our businesses around the world.

And another person who has not been in the military, says we need to look out for America...

Who should people listen to?

That is a real question. You have had an excellent service record defending this great country. Thank you sincerely for that service. I honor you, and thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

The thing is, there seem to be a LOT of people who are aok with the current situation, where China is taking over the business world.

I think that is the biggest issue for the future.

If Rubio is recognizing that fact, then he is on the right side of this very important issue, go-forward.

Maybe.

Again thanks for all of your service to our country.

For real.

Remember all the Marines who died at Tarawa..?

That’s in the Gilbert Islands, KIRIBATI.

The Chinese are soaking them in snazzy infratructure they don’t need, trapping them in loans, building a huge pier/warph they don’t need.

GOSH I WONDER WHY:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/beijing-splashes-cash-around-the-pacific-to-buy-friends-and-burden-enemies-8jnhv8zj2

Basically they’re fighting the future war NOW:

With MONEY.

You see the pattern again and again, and again:

The Chinese see these smiling, poor, brown people and they think, "SUCKER".

And they whip out their wallets and spin tales of dazzing futures of freedom and privelege.

And there is a plan.

I’m not A-Okay with China and the trade surplus. But I’m also not A-Okay with a nuclear war with China. I’m guessing that I’m much more familiar with nuclear weapons and their effects than most people here, including you. If you’re an actual atomic scientist or nuclear expert let me know.

I really feel sorry for the Chinese victims, here:

https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeast-asia/article/2158019/thailand-predicts-chinese-tourist-drop-670000-after-phuket

But compared to Phuket (Thailand) is Chinese boat quality control really STELLAR..?

I have my doubts.

But China knows its financial strength and the poverty of tiny Phuket, so they have real power over them, and they know it.

They didn’t hesitate at all, putting the strong arm on them.

And this is not even really one of the bigger cases.

Nope.

Again thanks for your service.

But we really, really, really need to start to emphasize American companies once again.

A whole huge bunch of Americans, sold out America.

That is not a good thing. It must be reversed.

Either by them, or if they don’t think so, by others.

Toss them over the side, along with their big investments in China. Ploop.

It is time to rebuild our own country once again.

It is time for America to run a trade surplus.

It is about a generation now, that all the wrong people, have been making all the wrong decisions, for all the wrong reasons.

My humble opinion.

The Russian economy is rated just below Canada in GDP, fer crissakes. The Europeans could handle Russia if they had to, considering the British, the French, and the Italians are well armed, even if the Germans arent. And the Chinese economy is tanking now that Trump is putting the screws to them. Plus China is surrounded by South Korea, which has a large and well equipped Army, and Japan, which has a larger and more modern Navy than Russia. Let’s not forget Taiwan, too, which is speculated to have secretly developed nuclear weapons as a deterrent to a Chinese invasion. On top of all that, most countries in Europe and Asia are aligned with the US, which is still the greatest power on Earth and could tackle both China and Russia combined. Your fears are unfounded.

So you’re not worried about conflict with another nuclear power? Do you live in the wilds of Alaska or Costa Rica?

Who in the world has the largest stocks of strategic weapons?
And the technological know how to keep upgrading generational weapons
Counting from 3-2-1

No fear, just realism

Oh yes, lets consider Taiwan as a player

and lets plan ad infinitum that the USA will dominate the world because our alliances are permanent
None of them are going to be swayed by China’s One Belt long term plan to create a Eurasian economic bloc around the geographic pivot of the world
And meanwhile we can keep spending our way to the top

Just print more money

Trump sees the long term futility of this strategic thinking

They’re doing this in Djibouti, too
China’s first foreign military base
Pay attention to where they position themselves
