Fox's Hannity calls on Secret Service to investigate anonymous anti-Trump writer

'This is a clear and present danger to the country.... a soft coup aided and abetted' by the media

Sean Hannity joined President Trump on Friday in urging federal authorities to identify the author of the anonymously written op-ed responsible for rocking the White House this week, calling their conduct a crime worthy of being investigated by the U.S. Secret Service.

Discussing the opinion column during his Fox News program, “Hannity,” the conservative commentator and adamant Trump supporter urged the agency responsible for protecting the president to find its author for the sake of national security.

“This is a clear and present danger to the country,” said Mr. Hannity. “That is beyond unacceptable. It’s like a soft coup aided and abetted by the corrupt media in this country.”

Published by The New York Times on Wednesday and attributed to an unnamed senior official, the op-ed claimed of an existence of a “resistance inside the Trump administration,” spurring dozens of denials and reportedly outraging the president.

I think it’s someone from outside the White House.

Putrid Bernstein comes to mind.

Or NYT itself. This failing newspaper is suddenly talked about and feels important and relevant, killing two birds with one stone: an attempt to harm Trump and gaining widespread attention.

Agree. If there was ever a case for the Espionage Act. The writer of the op-ed threatened to thwart the will of the President.

“Hannity,” the conservative commentator and adamant Trump supporter urged the agency responsible for protecting the president to find its author for the sake of national security.”

As long as it’s not Sessions and the DOJ/FBI. We’d have better luck with postal inspectors or game wardens.

We don’t whether it’s fake but the only way we’re going to know is if it’s investigated.

If it’s real it’s definitely a security threat to the country.

Whoever recommended Jeff Sessions for AG is on my list. That was the most destructive, boom-a-ranging action Trump has taken.

Getting the Secret Service to conclude it is fake, would be a benefit. Let's not attack those on our side, if it is not necessary.

The Last Chance?

Normally, threats to national security would be investigated by the DOJ/FBI.

I believe the real message that Hannity is sending is that the leadership at the DOJ/FBI cannot be trusted to conduct a thorough investigation. Therefore, POTUS should assign the investigation to the Secret Service.

Hannity is dumb? He’s the most powerful conservative in the country, even more influential than Rush.

US Marshals or Secret Service. Either way this does not take some year long investigation. It should take less than 48 hours to get the sources from the Times.

All this takes is a warrant and tactical team. Serve the warrant on the NY Times in an unannounced raid. Seize any computer or electronic device suspected of containing evidence. Then force the times to reveal their source.

I don't know what is taking people so long to figure out this is a direct threat to national security, is illegal and needs to be shut down with brute force raids if needed.

This "resistance" could have access or be able to impede the President from protecting this nation if we were attacked. How do we know this resistance does not have access to the nuclear football? They could withhold critical information from the President.

The source of this claimed to be inside the executive branch and acting to subvert the actions of the Commander N Chief. We as a nation cannot take the chance this is a hoax. We also cannot allow the media to hide behind the first amendment and conspire to undermine the authority of the United States Government. The NY Times must be assumed to be involved in this conspiracy.

And what better way to expose a “fake” than to investigate it and prove that it is a fake?

I don’t mind seeing the times with egg on its collective face.

If it is an insider how would it be different if
* It was someone working for Russia
* It was someone working for the DNC
* It was someone acting alone

Seems to me like it’s the exact same thing. If the person is working with an outside country/org, there may be additional crimes going on (sharing secret docs), but whatever they are doing inside the WH is just as bad if they are acting alone or being directed by Putin.
