My SIL is a State Trooper. He does leave the house for work without being armored up. I cannot imagine serving warrants without all of the body armor I could get my hands on.
I don't necessarily disagree. Have more officers been killed in the line of duty during the last 12 months than were killed in the preceding 12 months? My understanding is that the overall violent crime rates have fallen substantially over the last decade or two.
