As I read - and post here - I am looking at a statue of Churchill, brought to me from the War Rooms in London.

As a child in war time Britain, I was raised to respect and admire Churchill.

Seventy years later, I see no reason to change that.

Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill....saviour of my country from the "Naaarrrzies" - as he called them - and my hero.

Go pound sand Mr Kelly.

Sadly many FReepers fail to research “the rest of the story” comfortably convinced there’s no need to question historic saints.

Churchill may very well have saved England.

However, the reality of his complicity in the Bengal Famine that killed 4 Million in India cannot be denied, as he is still sorely remembered as a brutal English master who very openly dispised the brown skined people of India.
England’s Empire harvested India.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/world-history/winston-churchill-genocide-dictator-shashi-tharoor-melbourne-writers-festival-a7936141.html

In 1943, up to four million Bengalis starved to death when Churchill diverted food to British soldiers and countries such as Greece while a deadly famine swept through Bengal.

During an appearance at the Melbourne writers’ festival broadcast by ABC, the Indian MP noted Churchill’s orders related to Australian ships carrying wheat at Indian docks.

“This is a man the British would have us hail as an apostle of freedom and democracy, when he has as much blood on his hands as some of the worst genocidal dictators of the 20th century,” he said to applause.

He added: “People started dying and Churchill said well it’s all their fault anyway for breeding like rabbits.
He said ‘I hate the Indians. They are a beastly people with a beastly religion’.”

Its not arguable that the Soviets killed far more Nazis than the Brits.

And while the Soviets turned Eastern Europe into their empire, the Brits did the same in the Far East when they returned in 44'-45'

Churchill helped save our civilization from its fiercest enemies, and this putz turns tail and runs from criticism of a Twitter quote. SMH.

Astronaut Scott Kelly should apologize for his apology. He sounds like a nut case. Doesn’t he know that every white person is suspected of being a racist?

"Did not mean to offend by quoting Churchill. My apologies. I will go and educate myself further on his atrocities, racist views which I do not support. My point was we need to come together as one nation. We are all Americans. That should transcend partisan politics," Kelly wrote on Twitter in the evening.

Is this a joke?

I’ve had a Churchill quote on my page here for decades. Churchill was brilliant. He also drank a lot. Who gives a $hit. I know several genius types and a couple of billionaires who drink like fish. I’ve even heard of a guy who is a Supreme Court justice who drank a lot as a kid.

As far as Scott Kelly? How sad. I also know a guy who walked on the moon, he would not apologize for $hit.

It would appear from the Historical record, that the famine was largely the fault of the Calcutta Rice Market and their overriding greed.

I’m sure there were some missteps by the British and Churchill, but every attempt to alleviate the price/supply issues present in India at the time seemed to be defeated by the greediness of the Calcutta Rice market.

This may surprise you but the United States itself was once a British colony and threw them out in a costly war from 1775-1783.

They found their British administrators arrogant, condescending and overbearing.

And so did many of their other colonies across the globe.

My point was we need to come together as one nation.

Only if the left walks away from the Marxist and Immoral policies.

Otherwise, HELL NO!

While Churchill, who died in 1965...

In 1965, Churchill was widely acclaimed as one of the great heroes of Western civilization, and his death was a major news event. To me at the time, it seemed to have received more media attention than President Herbert Hoover's death three months earlier. Even KRLA--a rock music station whose audience was mainly teenagers and pre-teens--aired an hour-long documentary on his life.

Scott Kelly - for you to say such things - you should be saying them in GERMAN

because without Churchill, we would ALL be speaking German.

You, Sir, are the epitome of ignorance/
